When a Community Comes Together: The Fluvanna Fall Fest & Beyond

It’s two very different feelings when you go to a big corporate or state-ran event, and when you go to a local, community-driven event.

When you go to the larger event, let’s use the State Fair as an easy example, you have a lot of fun because there are so many different things to do. Hundreds of vendors and food options, huge bands playing on a giant stage, and businesses from all over the state show up to show off their products. It’s quite the spectacle and in it’s own league!

Your local, community event is very different. You’ll experience 2-4 different food options, about 40-80 vendors, and a local band or two jamming away.

Based on those descriptions, you might think “Ok, cool. I’m never going to a local event, that sounds lame”! Well, you would be completely wrong.

Those local events touch a certain part of your brain and body that you’ll never feel at a large event with so many people that you feel like a sardine shoved in one of those tin containers. You go up to one of the vendors at the State Fair, and they throw you your food and you get out of the way as fast as possible. The band sees possibly over 1,000 people while you just blend in. None of the businesses or people there will likely ever see you or need your patronage after that day.

Going to your local events means so much more to every person there, including yourself! Every vendor, every food truck, every band, and every other person attending the event comes from your community. These are people that you will see at every event, you’ll bump into them at the store, and your kids will play with their kids at the playgrounds and go to school with them. The emotional ties you have to your community are so much stronger than anything you will find at a large, corporate event.

These are the feelings that I experienced at the Fluvanna Fall Festival back on October 27th at Killa Kookies & Kream. Put together by the endless efforts of Natasha Stenstrom, the owner of My-Style Event Planning, everything about this event highlighted our community.

Every vendor came out to sell their handmade products, local food trucks came to keep everyone fed with their BBQ, popcorn, and ice cream, and local bands captivated everyone while they walked around the festival, or while sitting on a haybale watching them perform.

Nothing was better than seeing all of the kids and families dressed up in their Halloween costumes, running around from booth to booth collecting candy, and learning more about what local businesses surrounded them. It’s how we keep our economy and communities’ dreams alive! Events like these and supporting one another make every purchase and applause for the band that much more special.

Some parts of the event didn’t come together as we had some businesses and vendors arrive for the day, but that didn’t stop Natasha from putting on a great day, and it didn’t stop the community from enjoying the event! I couldn’t be happier with how this day turned out, and I can’t wait for the next one!

Speaking of which…

Next up for the amazing My-Style Event Planning is their “Santa’s Workshop Extravaganza”!

More details are still coming out, but this will be the perfect event to get your Christmas shopping either started or finished! Plenty of local vendors will be on hand to provide a variety of gift options for your family, friends, or yourself! There will be interactive workshops, seasonal music, and tasty treats! The atmosphere will be filled with holiday spirit as we gather as a community to once again to support each other, dance, laugh, and be merry!

This event will be held on December 1st starting at 12 PM. It will be hosted at the Crystal Ballroom at 110 W 3rd St in Jamestown. Follow My-Style Event Planning on Facebook and Instagram to stay up to date on all event details for Santa’s Workshop Extravaganza and more!
