SUMMARY:Marvin House Presents Luncheon Program on Lucile M. Wright Air Museum
DESCRIPTION:The Marvin House\, a landmark Jamestown women’s organization dedicated to leadership\, community service\, and cultural enrichment\, will mark its 75th anniversary during Women’s History Month with a special luncheon event celebrating the remarkable life of aviation pioneer Lucile M. Wright and her museum in Jamestown. \nThe celebration will take place on Saturday\, March 14\, 2026\, at 12:00 noon\, at the Marvin House\, located at 2 W. Fifth Street\, Jamestown. \nA Special Presentation by Dennis WebsterThe afternoon will feature an engaging presentation by Dennis Webster\, retired radio personality and curator of the Lucile M. Wright Air Museum. Webster will share the inspiring story of Lucile M. Wright\, a Chautauqua County aviation trailblazer whose ambition and determination helped shape the role of women in flight. \nAbout Lucile M. WrightBorn in Beatrice\, Nebraska\, and raised in Billings\, Montana\, Lucile M. Wright discovered her passion for flying at a young age. In 1922\, she took her first flight with General Billy Mitchell\, a close friend of her father\, Henry A. Miller—an experience that set the course for her lifetime devotion to aviation. \nWright went on to log 8\,000 hours of flight time in the seven planes she owned and flew over 5 million miles on commercial flights. During World War II\, she was the only woman courier pilot in Western New York\, serving under the Civil Air Patrol Program and transporting crucial machine parts and defense personnel. \nAn early member and national treasurer of the Ninety-Nines—the international organization of women pilots founded by Amelia Earhart\, Louise Thaden\, and Jacqueline Cochran—Wright dedicated her life to advancing aviation and supporting women pilots. She was a three-time recipient of the Amelia Earhart Medal and was named Woman of the Year in Aviation by the National Aeronautical Society in 1965. \nHer contributions went beyond the cockpit: Wright advocated for airport development\, championed pro-aviation legislation\, and established scholarship programs to foster the next generation of aviators. \nHonoring Her Legacy“The story of Lucile M. Wright is one of vision\, courage\, and leadership\,” says Dennis Webster. “She not only flew high in her own career but lifted others by inspiring young people—especially women—to take flight and chase their dreams.” \nWebster also shared that “The Wright Museum’s mission is to cultivate an interest in aviation among young people\, along with preserving the area’s aviation history and honoring the legacy of Lucile M. Wright\, a 20th-century aviation pioneer in Chautauqua County.” \nLuncheon MenuThe celebration begins with a luncheon featuring: \nHam and Swiss on sourdoughPotato leek soupCoffee and teaVanilla ice cream topped with crème de menthe and chopped pistachiosFollowing the meal\, guests will enjoy the featured presentation by Dennis Webster. \nAdmission and ReservationsTickets are $21 for Marvin House members and $25 for the public.Reservations are required and can be made by contacting the Marvin House directly at (716) 488-6206 or by email at marvinhouse75@gmail.com. \nSeating is limited\, so early reservations are encouraged. \nContinuing the Legacy of Women Who SoarAs the Marvin House celebrates 75 years of service\, this luncheon embodies the organization’s ongoing mission—to celebrate women’s achievements\, foster education and community engagement\, and inspire the next generation of women leaders. \nJoin us for this inspiring event and lift your spirits as we honor the extraordinary life of Lucile M. Wright and the enduring legacy of women who dare to soar.
