SUMMARY:The Art of Steven Swank
DESCRIPTION:Patterson Show 2026 Artist Statement \nThe Art of Steven Swank \nMy Life\, My Art – –The joy of aspiration\, the humility of limit. The creative imperatives that necessitate new insight and growth\, a novel path through or around the challenge of evolution in a particulate art piece or form delights and invigorates my whole being. \nThe Twigsticks are 3 dimensional line drawings which cast a second image on the wall in 2 dimensions. They are recent adventures in space. Photo collage has a long history in my studio as I focus on eye movement and composition. More whimsical are the small environments composed of found objects. Some paintings are new for this show. I also present poetry as metaphor\, which is a constant companion in my life.

SUMMARY:Chautauqua County Historical Society - Fireside Lectures
DESCRIPTION:WESTFIELD\, NY — A new historical lecture series\, free and open to the public\, will begin this March at Patterson Library. Known as the “Fireside Lecture Series\,” this new programming is a collaboration between the Chautauqua County Historical Society (CCHS) and the library. The Fireside Lecture Series was developed after the library approached CCHS in late 2025\, seeking collaboration to develop programming that focuses on history and\, more specifically\, local and regional history covering Chautauqua County and Western New York. After meeting and discussing further\, the two organizations settled on a lecture series that focuses primarily on local history\, but would also cover other topics related to general history\, as the opportunity allowed. In all\, eight lectures are planned for the inaugural year. The Fireside Lecture Series for 2026 will take place on the first Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. in March\, April\, May\, June\, September\, October\, November\, and December. The schedule of lectures for the first half of the year includes: Chautauqua County Celebrates America’s 250th with Norman Carlson\, Chautauqua County historian (March 5); The History of the Grange with Pamela Brown\, Harmony town historian (April 2); Westfield Native and Kentucky Derby Champion Vince Powers\, with Randy Anderson\, Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame director (May 7); and the Geological History of Western New York with Dr. Thomas Hegna from SUNY Fredonia (June 4).Additional lectures for the second half of the year will be announced this summer. All lectures will take place at Patterson Library (40 S. Portage St.\, Westfield) and are free and open to the public. To learn more about the Fireside Lecture Series\, visit CCHSMcClurg.org or PattersonLib.org.

SUMMARY:The Case of: The Chautauqua Red Ball Murders
DESCRIPTION:The Case of: The Chautauqua Red Ball Murders (Mac Morrison Murder Mystery Book 5)Two boys are playing tether-ball under a blood moon at a school playground. A third practices mumblety-peg with his uncle’s silver stiletto. In two minutes\, two of them are dead\, a red ball is found under a body\, a scrape of red paint is ignored on the tetherball pole\, and the stiletto is missing. The police incompetently misinterpret the evidence and rush to judgment by blaming an innocent child\, who is one of those murdered. \n** \nTwenty years later\, an Artificial Intelligence scan of unsolved murders reveals six instances where a red ball was found at the crime scene. Sheriff Lowell Buckman dubs them the Red Ball Murders\, and calls in his crack consultant\, Mac Morrison\, with his Malamute-Shepherd police dog\, Buddy. The six cases are all different\, with no apparent motives or connecting clues. \n** \nMac does what he always does: start at the scene\, reconstruct the murder\, and relentlessly question everything and everyone. He works from what he knows to what he doesn’t know. But this time\, he is not only matching wits with a sophisticated serial killer\, he is bucking the establishment who hired him. \n** \nOne thing is for sure: no killer ever avoids “Morrison Justice!”

SUMMARY:Katherine Kepner - Remembrance
DESCRIPTION:13 WALLS- Katherine Kepner’s “Remembrance” is a curated selection of atmospheric watercolor studies. \nI’ve been painting with watercolors since 2021 after giving up etch-a sketch and crocheting hats\, (there is a story for another time.) I hardly did anything else with my time due to covid restrictions except practice my new found pastime of painting. By the time we were able to gather again\, I joined a local art group and to my absolute surprise I won BEST in SHOW for a large painting of a marsh at the group’s spring show. It was such an encouraging experience that I continue my learning and painting and showing my work to this day. This exhibit of my landscape paintings is a portrayal of places; places that are know and nearby\, places that are memories and places that are only imagined. This work is less about documenting a particular moment in a place but the feeling that being in that place evokes for me and hopefully the viewer.

SUMMARY:Author Visit with Judy Shuler "The Nazi's Daughter"
DESCRIPTION:“The Nazi’s Daughter focuses on a lesser-told story\, the children of parents\, mostly fathers\, who worked for the Third Reich and were necessarily Nazis. Growing up Nazi meant unasked questions\, secrets\, a lifetime of guilt. Gisela has settled comfortably into her senior years. Stories of her early years in Nazi Germany and its aftermath remain guarded and unspoken. No one has asked her about them. Until now. Jessica\, her great-granddaughter\, wants stories to include in an admission essay for college in Germany. As Jessica probes for information\, Gisela struggles with what she will reveal.” \nhttps://wordsalwaysmatter.wordpress.com/

SUMMARY:Catherine D'Agostino "A Workshop for Writers"
DESCRIPTION:A Workshop for Writers- I want to write a book. Now what? \nCatherine D’Agostino will be on hand at the Patterson Library on Tuesday\, March 31 from 3-4\, to offer insight to writers – aspiring and established – on ways to develop a book idea into a plan. Just as painting a room requires preparation before beginning\, so does writing a manuscript. She will specifically discuss the options available when choosing an audience\, genre\, and point of view\, along with organizational methods to help keep writers on track. The presentation will end with a Q&A. D’Agostino won’t evaluate book pitches\, recommend publishers\, or discuss formatting documents; her focus will be on the writing process. \nCall us at 716-326-2154 to reserve your spot in this workshop!

SUMMARY:Lark Milius - Once Upon a Papercut
DESCRIPTION:Gallery Artist Statement \nFairy tales have long resonated with me and remain a lasting passion. They have shaped who I am\, and in turn\, I use my craft to reimagine and render them through scissors and paper. Fairy tales contain straightforward narratives of good and bad that children can understand\, yet also have a rich complexity that engages adult contemplations. \nMy artistic process begins digitally\, where I design each piece by exploring key narrative moments or emotions within a tale. Once the composition is finalized\, I project the drawing onto a wall and trace it. I then carefully select from my collection of papers\, choosing those best suited to the piece. Each shape is meticulously cut and layered to create depth and dimension. At first glance\, the compositions may appear simple\, but closer inspection reveals intricate details within the layers\, much like the stories that inspired them. \nI am particularly drawn to stories of transformation and change\, grief and perseverance\, caution and courage. Through this work\, I aim to capture the timeless nature of these tales\, inviting viewers to experience a sense of enchantment and wonder as they explore the simple complexity of Once Upon a Paper-Cut. \n\nShort Bio \nLark has had a life long passion for art\, fairy tales\, and libraries. She is ecstatic that her first gallery show Once Upon a Paper-cut will be held in the Patterson Library Octagon Gallery March 27\, 2026 – April 23\, 2026. \nLark got her Bachelors degree in Art with an emphasis in Illustration at Brigham Young University-Idaho (2021). \nLark works full-time at a public library in North Carolina as a Youth Services Associate. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Library and Information Sciences at University of North Carolina-Greensboro.
