SUMMARY:August On-Water Classroom - Water Chestnut Removal
DESCRIPTION:Join Everwild staff and learn how to identify and remove the aquatic invasive species\, Water Chestnut\, found in and around Chautauqua Lake. \nChautauqua Lake supports a wide variety of aquatic plants. The lake’s underwater flora includes rare\, threatened species as well as a variety of common plants that provide essential habitat for fish and other animals and aid in maintaining water quality. However\, it also includes several non-native invasive species that can cause challenges for the lake’s ecology\, limit recreational activities\, and impact the local economy. \nTo address this\, Everwild Land Trust runs an Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Early Detection program each summer. Trained staff and dedicated volunteers monitor the lake\, survey for invasive species\, and remove them when found. Regular On-water Classroom sessions are offered to train new volunteers in identifying target species and report sightings through iMapInvasives\, helping us increase awareness and improve coverage throughout the busy summer season. \nMultiple sessions are planned for the summer. Each session will be hosted at a different location. You are welcome to register for as many sessions as you’d like to learn and assist with AIS monitoring and removal. \nIntended Audience: AdultsPrice: FreeRegistration: Registration is required due to the highly weather dependent nature of these surveys. Registration will close 24 hours prior to event. \nSpecial Notes:Be sure to check your email prior to the event for any urgent updates.Participants must provide their own kayak or canoe and life jacket.Gloves are recommended as the Water Chestnut nutlets are thorny.Please bring anything you may need to stay safe and comfortable on the water. We recommend sun screen\, insect repellent\, water shoes\, a bottle of water\, and a snack.

DESCRIPTION:Our second Park Play with Pros session of the summer is heading to Celoron! \n\nJuly 20–24\, Jackals players and staff will be at Lucille Ball Memorial Park for a week filled with sports\, games\, mentorship\, and positive role models. Whether your child loves basketball\, soccer\, kickball\, or just being active outdoors\, this program is designed to help youth build confidence\, friendships\, and life skills while having fun.\nJuly 20–24\n9:00 AM – 12:00 PM\nLucille Ball Memorial Park\nAges 6–18\nJust $10 for the entire week\nOur first session begins June 29 at Jackson-Taylor Park\, and we are excited to bring this program to the Celoron community for the very first time.\n\nThank you to the Suicide Prevention Alliance of Chautauqua County and the Chautauqua County Youth Bureau for helping make these opportunities possible.
