SUMMARY:Toby's Soup Fundraiser for Ukraine
DESCRIPTION:Hey friends\, Toby (our longest-running team member and summer weekend warrior driver at AO) is ready to fire up his homemade soups again to support our friends in Ukraine as his birthday fundraiser. He’ll also be pitching in a dollar match up to $500! If you haven’t had the pleasure of devouring soup that Toby cooks – it is **incredibly delicious!** \nToby will be cookin’ up sausage\, leek\, and potato soup; as well as a large batch of jambalaya\, and a vegetarian option of mushroom\, wild rice\, and potato. As per Toby\, “You can enjoy a bowl of your choice so long as you donate at least “x” cents\, with “x” being the number of trips we’ve made to Ukraine.” So\, for a bare minimum 10 cent donation\, we invite you to come take part in a community event that will not only make your taste buds happy while lifting our spirits\, but also help our friends in Poland and Ukraine! If you’re on the go and would prefer to bring your own container for a quick take-out\, that works\, too! \nPiper and Alex will be on hand and happy to talk shop with anyone that would like to hear more about the humanitarian efforts we support through the Debniki Foundation in Krakow\, Poland; the Falcon Foundation in Ivano-Frankivsk\, Ukraine; and Shoulder to Shoulder in Poltava\, Ukraine. \nCindy\, local quilting extraordinaire\, has generously donated a beautiful handmade quilt that will be raffled as well! \nAs per Toby\, soups will start being served at 12:03pm until they’re gone. SUMMARY:Water Safety Series - DNA of a River
DESCRIPTION:Our waterways are always changing. This workshop will focus on what makes up our local creeks and river\, how water reacts to those things\, and how to decipher and recognize the safest path. \nThe off-season is a great time to learn more about water safety. Utilizing our “river in a bag\,” we’ll have a hands-on discussion covering how water reacts to river features (downstream and upstream V\, eddy\, eddy lines\, hydraulics\, holes\, seams and standing waves\, etc); and hazards – both natural (sweepers\, deadheads\, strainers)\, and man-made (bridges\, low-head dams\, dredged areas). We’ll focus on how these affect the paddling experience and how they change at different water levels. We’ll reference these features and hazards with photos and videos from local waterways including the Allegheny River\, Clarion River\, Brokenstraw Creek\, and Conewango Creek. \nPlease note – this is a classroom workshop.
