SUMMARY:Live at The Met: Macbeth
DESCRIPTION:Two of opera’s most extraordinary artists return to The Met: Live in HD for Verdi’s thrilling take on the immortal Shakespearean tale of the scheming couple determined to seize power at any cost. Following past triumphs in many of Verdi’s signature baritone roles\, Quinn Kelsey is the Scottish king haunted by the ghosts of his murderous ascent to the throne\, opposite Lise Davidsen – the world’s reigning dramatic soprano – as the power-mad Lady Macbeth\, whose ruinous ambition damns them both. \nMet Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin takes the podium for a penetrating production by Louisa Proske\, a brilliant young director making waves around the world. Rounding out the all-star cast are tenor Freddie De Tommaso as the heroic Macduff and bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green as Macbeth’s friend-turned-victim Banquo. \nThe Met: Live in HD is the Metropolitan Opera’s Peabody and Emmy Award–winning series of opera performances transmitted live from the stage of the Met in New York into movie theaters and event spaces worldwide. The series has made the Met the world’s leading provider of alternative cinema content and the only arts institution with an ongoing global series of this scale. When the series launched in 2006\, the Met was the first arts company to experiment this way. Since then\, the program has expanded\, with more than 32 million tickets sold to date\, and has been seen in virtually every important world capital from Paris to Cairo\, as well as in towns and villages spread across six continents. \nThis production runs approximately three hours\, 30 minutes\, with one intermission \nPart of Arts in the Afternoon\, which is sponsored by Dr. James M. & Marcia Merrins\, Live at the Met is underwritten with support from Daniel S. Kaufman and Timothy W. Beaver

SUMMARY:From Junkman to Stuntman to Car Crash King…
DESCRIPTION:H.B. “TOBY” HALICKI AND GONE IN 60 SECONDS \nThursday\, October 15\, 2026 | 7PM \nDunkirk native H.B. “Toby” Halicki was a pioneer and visionary in the world of independent film. \nGone in 60 Seconds (1974) propelled the stunt man and mechanic from his humble beginnings working in his family’s junkyard into instant stardom with its genre defining chase scenes\, guerrilla approach to filmmaking\, and car crashes the likes of which had never before been seen. Made on a budget of only $150\,000\, it grossed over $40 million at the box office\, and remains a cult classic to this day. \nHis other major film release\, The Junkman (1982)\, though a commercial failure\, was every bit the wild ride\, including plane crashes\, gun battles\, and even the assistance of the actual Goodyear Blimp. Expanding on the excitement of 60 Seconds\, it also gives further insight into his life experiences with its semi-autobiographical meta-story. A tour de force in its own right\, this hidden gem of a picture provides a prophetic roadmap for the direction Halicki’s career was heading into the 1980s\, and showcases his developing filmmaking ideas\, skills\, and practical stunts. \nHalicki returned to Western New York in the late 1980s to film Gone in 60 Seconds 2\, with car chases throughout North Tonawanda\, Jamestown\, Fredonia\, and Dunkirk that have to be seen to be believed. Tragically\, he was killed during the filming of a stunt\, and the picture was never completed; but his legacy lives on in every car movie made since. \nGraham Tedesco-Blair\, executive director of the Darwin R. Barker Library & Museum Association\, director of the Historical Society of Dunkirk\, and lifelong film buff\, will deliver this talk about Halicki’s life\, his work\, and his tragic death. It will also include film clips\, trivia\, and rarely heard stories about the unbelievably odd creation of the movie. \nBeginning at 4pm\, the fully restored original #1 Red Commander Camaro from Gone in 60 Seconds 2 will be on display in front of the Village Hall. The vehicle was in 49 scenes of the film and was restored by Mark Dietzen. Dietzen also will be on hand to answer questions about the car. \nPresented in Partnership with the Dunkirk Historical Society as part of Here & There – Chautauqua County History\, Travelers\, & Memories \nAdmission is FREE\, although donations are gratefully accepted

SUMMARY:Live at The Met: Cosi Fan Tutte
DESCRIPTION:The Met: Live in HD season kicks off with Mozart’s satirical comedy of fickle young love\, one of the composer’s most sublime creations. \nPhelim McDermott’s “colorful\, inventive” (The New York Times) staging\, inspired by Coney Island in the 1950s\, sets the uproarious story at a boardwalk amusement park\, where the two pairs of lovers at the heart of the tale find themselves on one emotional – and literal – thrill ride after another. \nSoprano Federica Lombardi and mezzo-soprano Samantha Hankey sing Fiordiligi and Dorabella\, opposite tenor Duke Kim and baritone Andrey Zhilikhovsky as Ferrando and Guglielmo. Bass-baritone Gerald Finley reprises his portrayal of the cynical Don Alfonso\, with soprano Ana María Martínez as the witty maid Despina. \nThe Met: Live in HD is the Metropolitan Opera’s Peabody and Emmy Award–winning series of opera performances transmitted live from the stage of the Met in New York into movie theaters and event spaces worldwide. SUMMARY:Low Lily LIVE @ The Fredonia Opera House
DESCRIPTION:With a vocal and instrumental blend that has been dubbed “outstanding” and “meticulous\,” the members of Low Lily (Liz Simmons\, Flynn Cohen\, and newest member Lily Sexton) come together to create a signature sound that has captivated audiences throughout the US\, UK\, and Canada. \nLow Lily is the colloquial name for the Trout Lily\, a wildflower that grows in the northeast and in regions further afield. Like its namesake\, Low Lily the band has been blooming across the musical landscape since 2015. Simmons (guitar\, banjo & vocals)\, Cohen (guitar\, mandolin & vocals)\, and Sexton (fiddle & vocals) blend their considerable individual talents into a stylistic bouquet of energetic fiddle music\, introspective folk\, bluegrass\, and Americana. The trio has deep roots in the fiddle tune and singing traditions of North America and the Anglo-Celtic diaspora. \nBorn in San Francisco to musician parents\, Liz Simmons spent her early childhood traveling through the wilds of north America in a sky blue VW bus. Her parents were itinerant\, moving from California to Oregon\, then to Ketchikan\, AK\, where they played regular gigs in pubs for the locals. Once the family settled in rural New Hampshire\, Simmons received classical musical training\, but soon found her way back to folk music. She received a BA from Goddard College where she studied American vernacular music of the 1920s and 30s. She then went on to found Annalivia and then Low Lily with Flynn Cohen\, as well as perform alongside Long Time Courting\, Hannah Sanders\, EVA\, Livingston Taylor\, Tom Chapin\, and others. \nFlynn Cohen\, at the age of 11\, was drawn to the guitar after an injury left him unable to pursue his passion for sports. When he was in his mid-teens\, his aunt and uncle turned him onto the likes of Fairport Convention\, Michael Hedges\, The Bothy Band\, and Pentangle. At the time\, all he wanted was to play guitar like John Renbourn of Pentangle; so when the opportunity to study with Renbourn arose at the Dartington College of Arts in England\, he jumped at the chance. After graduating from Dartington\, he headed to Oakland\, CA\, to attend Mills College\, where he immersed himself in the Irish trad and bluegrass music scenes there. Ultimately\, he made his way to the east coast after a phone call with accordion champion John Whelan\, who offered him a job as his guitarist. Once in Boston\, he was also hired to accompany three incredible fiddle prodigies in their late teens – Laura Cortese\, Hanneke Cassel\, and Lissa Schneckenburger. Cohen has also accompanied luminaries such as Adrienne Young\, Cathie Ryan\, Ruth Moody\, and many more. \nLily Sexton is a fiddler\, singer\, and songwriter based in western Massachusetts. A student of classical violin beginning at the age of 4\, she continued a classical music education in violin at the Westport Suzuki School\, and the Talent Education Suzuki School. While pursuing a Bachelor’s degree at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst\, she shifted her focus to fiddle-playing in the traditional Appalachian style. Sexton’s roots have fostered in her a deep versatility; she is equally at home playing a Kenny Baker breakdown\, a Scottish air\, or finding that elusive 3rd vocal harmony part. Outside of Low Lily\, she is front-woman of the indie-folk band Splendid Torch. She is also beloved in the New England roots music scene as a founding member of the neo-bluegrass band Mamma’s Marmalade. \nLow Lily’s recordings have received noteworthy attention with two #1 songs on international folk radio and two Independent Music Award wins. Their original song Hope Lingers On (written by former band member Lissa Schneckenburger)\, has been sung by choirs around the world as an anthem for peace and justice. \nThe Folk in Fredonia Music Series is sponsored by the Gilman Family

SUMMARY:1916 Silent Film\, Snow White w/ Live Music
DESCRIPTION:NATIONAL SILENT MOVIE DAY is September 29! Join us just three days later for a special screening of the long-lost first theatrical version of Snow White (1916) with live musical accompaniment. \nEveryone knows Disney’s 1937 animated film classic\, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs; but few are aware that a teenage Walt Disney growing up in Kansas City saw the original silent movie of the fairy tale. It was this 1916 silent film that inspired him to blaze a path in filmmaking and make his own version 21 years later. \nLike all silent films\, Snow White was made on flammable nitrate film stock; and for many years\, it was rumored to have been destroyed in a vault fire. But a single theatrical print was discovered in the Netherlands in 1992; and\, a heroic restoration was performed by the George Eastman House film archive. \nSince the Opera House dates all the way back to the silent film era\, it may not be the first time this film has been presented here. But now\, Seattle Harpist/Composer Leslie McMichael will perform her original score live on the concert harp for this 63-minute film\, accompanied by her sister Barbara McMichael on viola. \nNorthwest Film Forum commissioned McMichael to compose a new score for Snow White in 2016; and the 100-year-old film and McMichael’s live music premiered at opening night of Children’s Film Festival Seattle that year. Since then\, the old film and new live score have toured across the country. \nHow did McMichael approach the project of scoring the film? The harpist says that her DVD remote and digital timer were two modern tools that she relied on to compose a soundtrack that seamlessly fits the onscreen action. After watching the 63-minute film and writing longhand notes about every scene and character\, she developed musical themes to reflect the moods in the storyline. Certain motifs reappear in her score whenever a character appears – sweet Snow White has specific music\, as does the Witch\, the Huntsman\, the Prince\, and\, of course\, the Seven Dwarves! \nA graduate of Wellesley College\, McMichael’s musical pursuits include performance\, teaching\, recording\, and composition. She has toured the U.S.\, is on the faculty of Music Center of the Northwest\, and is a teaching artist with the Seattle Symphony. \nFrom solo music on concert\, Celtic and electric harps\, to composing\, arranging and recording original music; from Suzuki Method lessons for youth\, to harp classes for adults; from coffeehouses to concert halls … every day is different and fun in McMichael’s musical life!

SUMMARY:James McNeill Whistler
DESCRIPTION:In an era of great change and great beauty\, the character of James McNeill Whistler. \nConsidered by some to be one of the great innovators of 19th-century art\, he was a contemporary of the Impressionists\, much admired by Van Gogh and Manet. Boldly experimental and famously witty\, Whistler disrupted the strict conventions of Victorian society in pursuit of a new cult of beauty\, creating “art for art’s sake” and earning himself a place in the history of great art. \nHe found a parallel between painting and music\, and entitled many of his paintings “arrangements\,” “harmonies\,” and “nocturnes\,” emphasizing the importance of tonal harmony in his work. His most famous painting\, Arrangement in Grey and Black No. 1 (1871)\, commonly known as Whistler’s Mother\, is a revered and often parodied portrait of motherhood. It is arguably one of the most famous paintings in history; and this cinematic production will unveil the artist behind the art. \nThe Tate Britain is holding the first major retrospective of Whistler in three decades. This blockbuster exhibition promises to reawaken the world to just how important Whistler is to art history\, uniting world-famous masterpieces with rarely seen works. Exhibition on Screen brings these stunning works and the incredible story behind them to cinemas around the world\, bringing this truly global artist to a global audience. This is an unmissable chance to get to know this visually spectacular artist and the influence he has had on those who followed. \n“An artist is not paid for his labour but for his vision.” – James McNeill Whistler \nThis production runs approximately one hour\, 30 minutes. \nPart of Arts in the Afternoon\, which is sponsored by Dr. James M. & Marcia Merrins

SUMMARY:Coming Home: The Music of James Taylor
DESCRIPTION:WNY native James Gedeon performs the music of James Taylor in this special tribute event. \nGedeon describes the concert as an intimate acoustic performance that brings audiences closer to the heart of Taylor’s timeless songs. With a deep reverence for the music\, Gedeon presents each piece in its purest form\, capturing not only the warmth and honesty of Taylor’s vocal delivery but also the intricate detail of his unique guitar style. Whether it’s the uplifting message of “Shower The People\,” the inherent longing of “Fire & Rain\,” or the celebration of “Your Smiling Face\,” the result is an authentic\, heartfelt experience that honors Taylor’s legacy\, while inviting listeners to feel as though the music is being shared just for them. \nGedeon began honing his craft in New York City’s legendary Greenwich Village music scene during the 1990s\, performing in storied venues such as The Village Gate\, The Back Fence\, and The Red Lion. It wasn’t long before he became known as a singer and songwriter whose warmth and authenticity could make even those in the farthest corner of a room feel like they were right up front. \nHis talent and stage presence have taken him to some of New York’s most iconic venues\, including Le Cirque\, The Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Center\, and The Waldorf Astoria Grand Ballroom\, where he performed as part of the opening band for Dan Aykroyd and The Blues Brothers at The Alzheimer’s Foundation Annual Fundraiser. \nHis music has traveled well beyond New York. Gedeon has performed at The Smithsonian in Washington\, D.C.\, The Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia\, Flathead Lake Lodge in Montana\, Mauna Kea Resort in Hawaii\, The Ocean Club on Paradise Island in the Bahamas\, and even at The Royal Palace in Morocco. \nAs both a solo artist and collaborator\, Gedeon has opened shows for America\, The Marshall Tucker Band\, Kenny Rogers\, Jay Leno\, Dana Carvey\, and Livingston Taylor. He has performed with renowned musicians including guitarists Oz Noy and Bernie Williams\, drummers Dave Weckl and Steve Holley\, and saxophonist Mark Rivera (Billy Joel\, Ringo Starr\, Foreigner). \nAmong Gedeon’s most memorable performances was at the wedding of radio icon Howard Stern\, where he performed three duets with Billy Joel. Later that evening\, as part of the house band\, he backed up Phoebe Snow and Pat Monahan of Train on their hits “Calling All Angels” and “Drops of Jupiter.” \nToday\, in addition to his solo work and touring with Coming Home: The Music of James Taylor\, Gedeon tours nationally with “Taylor\, Simon\, King: A Celebration of Three American Troubadors\,” honoring the timeless music of James Taylor\, Carly Simon\, and Carole King. \nMore than three decades after his first gigs in Greenwich Village\, Gedeon continues to perform with the same passion\, sincerity\, and spirit that have defined his journey from the very beginning — creating moments of connection through music that feels both familiar and profoundly his own. \nPart of the Spotlight Series\, Sponsored by DFT Communications

SUMMARY:A Conversation with That 70's Show Co-Creator Mark Brazill
DESCRIPTION:One of the most popular television sitcoms of the late ’90s and early 2000s was That ’70s Show. It ran for eight seasons from 1998 to 2006\, and was nominated for 16 Primetime Emmy Awards. \nThe series focuses on the lives of a group of six teenage friends living in the fictional town of Point Place\, WI. But what many may not know is that Point Place was a setting that served as a stand-in for Dunkirk\, NY! Written and co-created by Dunkirk native Mark Brazill\, the show was based on and inspired by actual people\, places and events in Brazill’s life growing up in Dunkirk. \nThis special evening exploring Dunkirk’s influence on the show will feature show clips\, trivia\, guest appearances\, and the story of how Brazill developed his concept for a show that ultimately became one of America’s most watched series. Comedian Ritch Shydner will host and interview Brazill. Audience members will have an opportunity to ask questions at the end of the evening\, as well. \nBrazill started his career doing stand-up comedy\, and headlined clubs across America. He was a regular at The Improv and The Comedy Store. After opening for Dennis Miller\, he was recruited to write for The Dennis Miller Show. That began a comedy writing career that eventually led to the creation of That 70’s Show. Brazill also has been credited with writing for and producing 3rd Rock from the Sun\, and writing for In Living Color. Additionally\, he co-created and wrote many episodes of Mr. Rhodes. \nAs a stand-up comedian\, Shydner appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson\, Late Night with David Letterman\, and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno numerous times. He performed an HBO half-hour special called One Night Stand\, and was a guest on Comics Unleashed. Along with comedian Mark Schiff\, he compiled stories of comedians on the road in a 2006 book entitled I Killed. Shydner was featured in the 2010 documentary I Am Comic\, in which he traveled around the country interviewing various comedians\, a process that ultimately led to his return to stand-up by going on the stage again after 13 years of retirement. \nAs an actor\, Shydner played Al Bundy’s co-worker and friend Luke Ventura on Married … With Children\, and made guest appearances on other TV shows such as Designing Women\, Roseanne\, and Dr. Katz\, Professional Therapist. He also appeared in the feature films Beverly Hills Cop II and Roxanne.

SUMMARY:The Erie Railroad Comes to Dunkirk
DESCRIPTION:The New York and Erie Rail Road was the first railroad to link the Atlantic and the Great Lakes; and when it opened in 1851 it was the longest railroad in the world. \nRailroad historian William D. Burt will show how it happened — the choice of Dunkirk as the western terminus\, the original line NY&E built and then abandoned in favor of a better one\, and the 1851 grand opening celebration. He will discuss how railroad directors speculated in Dunkirk land and laid out several blocks of the city\, and how many Dunkirk streets are named for them. \nWhat is the Erie’s legacy in Dunkirk? This well-illustrated presentation covers it all. \nBill published his first history article when he was in high school and has continued writing\, off and on\, ever since. Following a career in the railroad industry\, he took up researching and writing about the history of the fascinating business\, with a primary interest in Eastern railroading\, particularly the Erie Lackawanna and its predecessor railroads. \nHe holds a BA in Political Science from SUNY Geneseo and a dual MS in Transportation Planning and Engineering and Management Science from Polytechnic Institute of New York (now part of NYU). He culminated a 27-year career in the railroad industry as President and COO of the Livonia\, Avon & Lakeville Railroad and its subsidiaries B&H Rail Corp. and Western New York & Pennsylvania Railroad. \nPart of Here & There – Chautauqua County History\, Travelers\, & Memories \nAdmission is FREE\, although donations are gratefully accepted

SUMMARY:Live at the Met: El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego
DESCRIPTION:The Metropolitan Opera’s 2025-26 Live in HD season comes to a close with a live transmission of American composer Gabriela Lena Frank’s first opera\, a magical-realist portrait of Mexico’s painterly power couple Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera\, with libretto by Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright Nilo Cruz. \nFashioned as a reversal of the Orpheus and Euridice myth\, the story depicts Frida\, sung by leading mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard\, leaving the underworld on the Day of the Dead and reuniting with Diego\, portrayed by baritone Carlos Álvarez. The famously feuding pair briefly relive their tumultuous love\, embracing both the passion and the pain before bidding the land of the living a final farewell. \nMusic Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts the Met-premiere staging of Frank’s opera\, a “confident\, richly imagined score” (The New Yorker) that “bursts with color and fresh individuality” (Los Angeles Times). The vibrant new production\, taking enthusiastic inspiration from Frida and Diego’s paintings\, is directed and choreographed by Deborah Colker. \nPart of Arts in the Afternoon\, which is sponsored by Dr. James M. & Marcia Merrins\, Live at the Met is underwritten with support from Daniel S. Kaufman and Timothy W. Beaver

SUMMARY:Ten Cent Howl
DESCRIPTION:Back before computers and cell phones and i-everything\, when we were still trying to find our way\, in the corners and pockets of our country when things were simpler\, though always complicated by the human condition\, there was music. It spoke of the lives of our families; the older generations before you or me\, before Mom and Dad\, before Grandma and Grandpa. It was the feeling of the soft blades of grass between your toes on a warm summer day; of a tall cold glass of lemonade after a back-breaking day of work in the hot sun. It was dancing with your best girl under the stars. It was the voice of life and family and experience and love and heartbreak. It is where we come from and who we are; our roots. \nGenerations later\, Ten Cent Howl has distilled that distinctly American experience into song once more. This popular regional band makes its debut performance at the Opera House. \nBand members include: \nBill Smith – Vocals\, acoustic guitar\nJerry Hall – Bass\, vocals\nRandy VanWey – Drums\nCharlie Wesley – Electric guitar\nSasha Pack – Keyboards \n“Ten Cent Howl managed to marry the influences of bluegrass\, rockabilly\, primal rock ’n’ roll and Pogues-like punk-folk with strength and vitality.” — Jeff Miers\, The Buffalo News \n“This is a unique band with plenty of lyrical and musical sweetness. SUMMARY:The Music of Simon & Garfunkel
DESCRIPTION:Swearingen & Kelli recreate the music\, memories and magic of the most famous folk-rock duo of our time\, Simon & Garfunkel. \nAJ Swearingen has been performing this music for twenty years exhibiting a mastery of Paul Simon’s intricate guitar playing. His deep baritone blends perfectly with Jayne Kelli’s angelic vocals delivering a true tribute to the sound of the 1960’s Greenwich Village coffeehouse performances. \nThe duo is on a mission to share this iconic music to new audiences around the country. Both artists were heavily inspired by the great 70s singer-songwriters\, but their unique ability to channel the sounds of Simon & Garfunkel is immediately apparent when you hear them perform these classic songs live. \nBroadway World calls describes the show as “one of the most talented duos of today playing the music of one of THE most famous duos of yesterday.” \nSongs in the performance include: \nHOMEWARD BOUND\nMRS. ROBINSON\n59TH STREET BRIDGE SONG\nTHE BOXER\nSCARBOROUGH FAIR\nBRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER\nCECILIA\nAMERICA\nHAZY SHADE OF WINTER\nSOUND OF SILENCE\nI AM A ROCK\nTHE DANGLING CONVERSATION\nOLD FRIENDS / BOOKENDS\nONLY LIVING BOY IN NEW YORK\nAT THE ZOO\nPOEM ON THE UNDERGROUND WALL\nFAKIN IT\nWE GOT A GROOVY THING\nBLEEKER STREET\nSPARROW\nRICHARD CORY\nKEEP THE CUSTOMER SATISFIED\nFLOWERS NEVER BEND WITH THE RAINFALL \nHailing from Lapeer\, Michigan songstress Kelli first crossed paths with Pennsylvania native Swearingen over a decade ago at a songwriters club in Florida. \nAfter becoming fast friends and bandmates\, they eloped in Punta Cana and headed for Nashville\, where their music continues to evolve. This past fall’s release\, Build Myself Up From the Ground\, garnered features on The Bluegrass Situation\, Wide Open Country\, and Americana Highways\, who praised them for sounding “as good as John Prine with Bonnie Raitt on Angel From Montgomery.” \nSwearingen & Kelli have shared the stage with artists including David Bromberg\, Crystal Gayle and Kenny Rogers. Swearingen’s song “You’re Not Here With Me” was recorded by folk icon Tom Rush featuring Nanci Griffith on his album\, What I Know.

SUMMARY:Jamestown's Trolley #93 Marks 100th Birthday
DESCRIPTION:The Jamestown Street Railway Trolley Car #93 marks its 100th birthday this year. \nPut in service in 1926\, it was one of the many street cars that serviced passengers somewhere within Erie County\, NY\, Erie County\, PA\, and Chautauqua County. It is arguably the last surviving stand-alone car remaining from these areas. \nA group of volunteers has been working since 2014 to restore the trolley car\, a project that is now nearing completion. While pretty much cosmetically restored\, there is still some work to be done on the trucks (the four railroad type wheel assembly that supports the trolley on the rails)\, but that is waiting on the completion of its final display location. Plans for a display building in conjunction with the Fenton History Center are moving forward \, while fundraising for the project continues toward providing all that is necessary to ensure that this last remaining piece of Chautauqua County streetcar history is preserved. \nProject Volunteer Bob Johnston will talk about this important piece of Chautauqua County history and provide more information on its status and plans to celebrate its 100th birthday. \nPart of Here & There – Chautauqua County History\, Travelers\, & Memories \nAdmission is FREE\, although donations are gratefully accepted
