DESCRIPTION:Learn how to care for and propagate succulents. Succulents are a group of plants that store water in their leaves. The leaves tend to be thick and fleshy. Succulents tend to thrive in dry climates and don’t like a lot of humidity. \nEach participant can create a small decorative hanging planter with real succulents propagated by Miss Jessica from her very own collection. DESCRIPTION:In this artistic adventure\, we will read “For the Birds: The Life of Roger Tory Peterson” by Peggy Thomas. Roger Tory Peterson was an American naturalist\, conservationist\, citizen scientist ornithologist\, artist and illustrator\, educator\, and a founder of the 20th-century environmental movement\, where he was an inspiration for many. Peterson\, known for his sketches and paintings of birds and nature was born in Jamestown in 1908. The Roger Tory Peterson Institute (RTPI) is located in Jamestown and is part of the library system’s Day Adventure Pass program. \nEach participant can create a parrot using their handprints. \nAll ages. \nRegistration Required. \nProgram provided using funding from the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System’s Mini Summer Reading Grant 2025. \nParticipants are asked to leave their art projects for our Community Art Show displaying all projects created throughout the summer. DESCRIPTION:FLOWER POUNDING with Brenda Nickerson \nFlower pounding\, or Tatakizome\, is an ancient Japanese technique of hammering plants to create patterns on fabric. It is a very simple technique that renders gorgeous results. All you need is fresh flowers\, a hammer and either paper\, canvas or fabric to transfer the flower “dye”. \nLearn the basics of flower pounding: which flowers and/or leaves work well and how hard to pound to get the desired results. \nCost is $10 per person.
