SUMMARY:Book Signing: Melissa O'Connor
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE BOOKThe Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo meets The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel in this enchanting novel about estranged lovers reconnecting over mysterious tapes found in an attic and the old Hollywood secret hidden within them. \nAfter her grandmother’s death\, thirty-something Margot DuBois prepares to sell the house quickly so she can go back to her predictable life in Santa Barbara. There\, no one knows she used to write and how not succeeding wrecked her confidence. While cleaning out the attic\, she comes across eight unlabeled cassette tapes. Unable to use the damaged tape player\, she calls in a favor from Leo—her first love and first epic heartbreak—and they strike a deal: he’ll fix the player if he can hear what’s on the tapes. When they manage to listen\, the two are shocked to hear the voice of comedic legend Vivian Stone. Why did she record these tapes and how did Margot’s grandmother get them? \nBetween listening to Vivian recount everything from her forbidden love for Hollywood’s leading actor\, to working under a misogynistic exec\, to her chemistry with her costar-turned-husband on TV\, Margot and Leo fall down a memory lane of their own. Margot is inspired by Vivian’s tenacity and courage to keep fighting for the life she wants\, but everything changes when Vivian reveals a secret tied to her past in this moving exploration of how it’s never too late to start over. \nABOUT THE AUTHORMelissa O’Connor became obsessed with stories involving family secrets\, betrayal\, and forbidden love after being given a box of used V.C. Andrews books at age ten. She lives in Buffalo\, New York\, where she can usually be found cheering on her kids’ hockey teams and sneaking words on the page between games. The One and Only Vivian Stone is her debut novel.

SUMMARY:Author Talk & Book Signing: Auden Schendler Author of Terrible Beauty
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a chat at the Robert H Jackson Center with Auden Schendler as we discuss his book\, Terrible Beauty: Reckoning with Climate Complicity and Rediscovering Our Soul. \nAbout the Book \nA firsthand\, trench-view story of the failure of the modern environmental movement–and an inspiring prescription for change. \nSomething’s gone badly awry with environmentalism. We faithfully separate our waste into different streams\, but wonder whether it really makes a difference. Global companies announce their commitment to carbon negativity while simultaneously sponsoring oil conferences. American businesses\, communities\, and individuals assiduously measure their carbon footprints\, then implement voluntary emissions-reduction programs\, all while trumpeting their do-gooderism. \nThe problem is\, none of this–whether individual efforts or corporate sustainability tactics–will make a dent in solving the civilizational threat of climate change. We only pretend it will\, at our peril. \nAs sustainability veteran Auden Schendler argues in this provocative\, powerful book\, we’re living a big green lie. The hard truth is that much of the modern environmental road map could have been written by the fossil fuel industry specifically to avoid disrupting the status quo. We have become somehow complicit. \nBut there is another truth: while ineffective or duplicitous environmentalism has become standard practice\, we all have friends and family we love and care about\, whose future depends on solving the problem of climate change. Conscience tells us we have an obligation to repair the world. How can our common dreams be so at odds with our daily practice? And how might we meld our spirit and our passion to create a better future? \nSchendler meets this profound contradiction head-on–with a bracing critique\, moving personal stories of parenthood and service\, and innovative\, real-world methods to tackle climate change at the corporate\, community\, and individual levels. \nTerrible Beauty is a unique and inspiring call for a new environmentalism\, showing us that the key to saving the planet is to tap into our own humanity. \nAbout the Author \nAuden Schendler has spent twenty-five years running sustainability programs at Aspen One\, focusing on clean-energy development\, climate policy\, advocacy\, and activism. He publishes widely on climate change\, parenting\, and the outdoors and was named a “climate innovator” by Time magazine and a “climate saver” by the EPA. He is the author of the book Getting Green Done. He lives in Basalt\, Colorado\, with his wife and two children.

SUMMARY:Author Talk & Book Signing: Megan Walrod
DESCRIPTION:About the Author: \nI’ve had a passion (and what some might call an obsession) with words since I was a young girl. I was enthralled with how I could create magical stories by putting words together on a page. I was creating new realities\, all with my words and imagination! \nAs a Women’s Empowerment Coach\, I support women to “author their lives” and create audacious\, authentic lives that light them up. How? By changing the WORDS and STORIES they tell themselves about themselves to be more empowering and uplifting. \nI’m dedicated to helping women break free from codependent patterns and cultural conditioning so they can follow their hearts and prioritize their dreams. My passion for this work stems from my own experience with overcoming codependency and people-pleasing. \nMy personal journey inspired the “Live Your Yes” philosophy\, which comes from my deep knowing that when women become the creators of their lives and prioritize their joy\, they become more magnetic and create greater success and fulfillment in all areas of their lives. \nAbout the Book: \nThe Story Of A Woman Reclaiming Her PowerAfter Sabina watches her rock star husband walk out on their marriage\, a phone call reveals that her beloved grandmother is in the ICU in Santa Cruz\, CA. So Sabina hits the road with a tear-stained face\, a duffel bag of clothes\, and no plan for her future. \nIn her grandmother’s seaside world\, Sabina reconnects with several old passions: ocean swimming\, process painting\, and a long-lost summer love named Graham—all of which force her to confront the artistic dream she abandoned to support her husband. Meanwhile\, a mysterious voice calls to her. Sabina wonders if it’s a Selkie\, one of the mythical shape-shifting seal folk from her grandmother’s stories. \nAs both her marriage and her grandmother’s health deteriorate\, Sabina wrestles with the choices she’s made. Is it too late to reclaim her dream? Must she choose between art and love? And is the voice she’s hearing a sign she’s lost it—or a key to unlocking her true self?
