DESCRIPTION:Arthur Wellington Anderson was Jamestown’s City Historian from the 1920s through the 1940s. This man’s past is shrouded in mystery\, having arrived in Jamestown in 1922 for unknown reasons. He worked as an advertiser\, was involved in local prohibition activism\, and then took an interest in local history\, becoming one of the area’s most prominent historians in the early 20th century. Andrew Kolstee will tell his story. \nThe 2025 Fenton History Center Lecture Series features both morning and evening lectures between March and September. This event is free and open to the public. DESCRIPTION:Tucked away from view behind respectable facades\, alleys were indispensable elements in American cities during the last half of the nineteenth century. The “impolite” realities of the industrial movement were hidden from Victorian society. Jamestown had 5 alleys – what are their stories? Learn about them on the Hidden Alleys tour.Participants will meet at the Fenton History Center at 10:30 a.m.The Fenton History Center conducts historic walking tours from June to August. The cost is $12 for non-members and $8 for members. Participants can pre-register online\, at the Fenton\, or by phone at 716-664-6256.
