Filling the Gaps: The Events Chautauqua County

Wants More Of

Gus Macker Basketball Tournament

We post a lot on social media. We post twice a day for most of the week. It’s a ton of event sharing, community engagement, local businesses promoting, and sometimes just some funny nonsense. Earlier this week, we made a post asking you “what events are missing in Chautauqua County?”.

That was the sleeper agent activation phrase.

Over 100 comments later, we have a solid list of events, businesses, and venues that are lacking or completely missing. I’ll link the post below so you can go and leave your own comment.

We told everyone that we have added their feedback to “the board”. That wasn’t a lie. I literally have aboard I put all of the feedback on. Here is what we gathered so far:

    • Summer Camp Fair/List

It’s important to note that some of these events already exist, and if you know of an existing book club or pilates class, go share that information with the people in this post. Share your experience on your own social media page. Give the venue a 5-star Google review so it helps other people discover it. Bring a friend or family member with you to their next meeting or class. Take an extra action.

The main takeaway is that some of these events and businesses don’t exist. There is a gap between what is being offered and what the community wants.

We want to keep collecting information from all of you, but what are we planning to do with it? We want to be able to check these off one by one. We would love put on every event that everyone wants. Unfortunately, that’s not going to be possible. What we can do is be the bridge.

This information can be used by local businesses, non-profits, and organizations to help us all focus on what you want. We can create another trivia night, but no one in the post mentioned that they need a trivia night. We can bring in a DJ to play country music, but no one left a comment saying we need a country music night.

Absolutely none of this is to be used as a criticism of our local businesses, non-profits, and organizations. This is about identifying opportunities that encourage more people from our community to be engaged.

Now is the time to get involved. For all of you, the community, I encourage you to use our events calendar to find an event to attend this weekend. Try something new! It doesn’t have to be something you’ve done before or are comfortable with. That’s how we grow as individuals, support new businesses, and show that we want new events to happen.

If you are a local business, non-profit, or organization, and you want to help fill one of these gaps, go for it! Please take some steps towards organizing the event, and My CHQ will be here to help get the word out and help bridge any gaps you might have!

My CHQ will continue to be Chautauqua County’s #1 event promoter. We will continue to listen to the community and keep building our missing events board. Our social media DM’s are always open, and you can email us from our Contact Us page on our website. Continue to share ideas, continue to engage, and keep helping Chautauqua County grow!
