At the National Comedy Center Memory Café\, exhale together and share moments of joy and connection—one laugh at a time. \nJoin us on the first Monday of each month for our One Laugh at a Time Memory Café—a program for people living with memory loss including dementia-related illnesses and Alzheimer’s\, plus their caregivers\, care partners\, or family members. At each memory café\, participants will experience the museum’s interactive touch-screen exhibits and theater presentations at their own pace\, while enjoying comedy’s greatest legends and favorite stand-up\, TV and movie moments. \nEach gathering also features a short\, engaging comedy program highlighting a moment in comedy history—whether focused on a legendary performer\, an iconic film\, a beloved television show or other comedy project. This approximately 20-minute presentation includes video clips and stories designed to spark laughter\, conversation\, and shared memories. \nParticipants will also have the opportunity to socialize and enjoy light snacks in the Comedy Center’s Karaoke Lounge.

DESCRIPTION:Michigan artist Lisa L. Grix (Aug 3rd – Aug 8th) has been involved in the art scene around the Metro Detroit area for many years. Schooled in art at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center\, Lahser High School and Central Michigan University\, she has dabbled in many mediums. \nSince 2005 Lisa has been creating Grixdolls. They are mixed media dolls loosely based on African talisman dolls. Every Grixdoll is named and carries a energy\, intent or purpose. Each piece is made from recycled or repurposed materials. Many pieces are made from vintage metal pressings\, pine needles\, sticks\, vintage fabric and buttons. \nShe has finally combined her knowledge of art history\, color\, textile\, collecting and assembly skills to arrive at pieces she is very passionate about.

SUMMARY:Rosemarie Zagarri @ Chautauqua Institution
DESCRIPTION:Rosemarie Zagarri is Distinguished University Professor and professor of history at George Mason University. A specialist in Early American political and women’s history\, she is the author of a numerous articles and several books\, including The Politics of Size: Representation in the United States\, 1776-1850\, A Woman’s Dilemma: Mercy Otis Warren and the American Revolution\, and Revolutionary Backlash: Women and Politics in the Early American Republic. \nShe has contributed several amicus briefs to the Supreme Court and is a member of the Brennan’s Center’s Historians Council on the Constitution. She has been a historical consultant for the Statue of Liberty Museum as well as on various digital projects\, such the Mapping Early American Elections project and When Women Lost the Vote. A former president of the Society for Historians of the Early American Republic (SHEAR)\, she is also an elected member of the American Antiquarian Society and the Society of American Historians. \nZagarri has received numerous scholarly awards\, including fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities\, the American Philosophical Society\, and the George Washington Presidential Library at Mount Vernon. She received her Ph.D. from Yale University.

SUMMARY:Manisha Sinha - Interfaith Lecture Series
DESCRIPTION:Manisha Sinha is the Draper Chair in American History at the University of Connecticut and immediate Past President of the Society for Historians of the Early American Republic. She received her Ph.D from Columbia University where her dissertation was nominated for the Bancroft Prize. She was nominated to the OAH Distinguished Lecture Series in 2003. A Guggenheim fellow for 2022-2023\, she has received several other fellowships from the NEH and the Mellon foundation. She is the author of The Counterrevolution of Slavery: Politics and Ideology in Antebellum South Carolina which was cited in the New York Times’ 1619 project and named one of the ten best books on slavery in Politico.
