SUMMARY:First Friday: All About Hellbenders with Kelly Crandall
DESCRIPTION:First Friday (Adult+)\nAll About Hellbenders with Kelly Crandall \nFriday\, February 6\, 2026\n11:00 a.m. – Noon \n$8 Adults; $6 Nature Center members\n$6 Children 9 – 15 \nReservations appreciated\, walk-ins welcome. \n  \nJoin Kelly Crandall\, a wildlife biologist with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation\, as she shines a light on one of the most cryptic and misunderstood species in New York State\, the Eastern Hellbender. \nHellbenders go by many names\, including Allegheny alligators\, snot otters\, and lasagna lizards. There are just as many questions about Hellbenders as there are names. What’s the difference between a mudpuppy and a hellbender? Are hellbenders venomous? These are some of the questions that Kelly will be answering as she talks about the life history of these salamanders\, their population status in the region and across North America\, and how we can all be better neighbors to our local streams. \nAbout the speaker: Kelly Crandall is a Chautauqua County native. After graduating from Cornell University with a degree in Animal Science in 2018\, Kelly worked as a wildlife technician on a variety of projects\, including Ocelot conservation in Texas\, Burmese Python management in the Florida Everglades\, Wild Turkey research in Missouri\, and Steelhead Creel surveys in Dunkirk for the DEC. Kelly received her Master’s Degree in Forestry from Southern Illinois University where she studied the effects of human development on the movement of mesopredators in the Florida Keys and related that to parasite transmission. Kelly now works for the NYSDEC as a Regional Wildlife Biologist where she focuses on freshwater mussels and rare & endangered species of the Allegheny Watershed. \n  \nSpecial Information: If you’d like to bring a packed lunch\, you can visit attendees and the speaker after the program.

SUMMARY:Nuremberg Symposium\, Images of Hate\, Trials of Conscience: What Nuremburg Taught Us About Propaganda
DESCRIPTION:Eighty years after the Nuremberg Trials\, this program revisits a vital and timely question: Can images be criminal? \nMilitary historian and legal scholar Dr. Mark M. Hull\, Ph.D.\, J.D.\, FRHistS\, FRSA (Professor\, Department of Military History\, US Army Command and General Staff College\, retired; Advisor\, Courtroom 600 Project) will explore how propaganda in Nazi Germany was not only spoken or written\, but also drawn\, filmed\, and mass-distributed. \nHis highly visual presentation will examine the postwar denazification cases of:– Veit Harlan\, Nazi filmmaker– Fritz Hippler\, propaganda film chief– Philipp Rupprecht\, cartoonist whose antisemitic caricatures helped prepare the public for genocide \nUnlike Julius Streicher—hanged at Nuremberg for incitement through his newspapers\, speeches\, and children’s books—these visual propagandists largely escaped similar accountability. Their cases reveal the profound difficulties of prosecuting persecution by image. \nDrawing on newly uncovered historical evidence and connecting it to modern parallels—from Charlottesville to the spread of digital hate memes—Dr. Hull traces the enduring power of visual propaganda. \nThis program asks: What responsibility do artists\, media figures\, and creators bear when their images fuel atrocity? And what lessons must we carry forward as we commemorate the legacy of Nuremberg? \n\nRegistration coming soon.

SUMMARY:The Diary of Anne Frank - Lucille Ball Little Theatre of Jamestown
DESCRIPTION:“In spite of everything\, I still believe that people are really good at heart.” \n\nThis February\, we invite you to join Anne Frank and her family inside the Secret Annex\, where the rules are simple and unforgiving. Stay quiet. Stay small. Avoid attention.\nThe Diary of Anne Frank follows eight Jewish people forced into hiding as persecution intensifies\, legal protections disappear\, and simply existing becomes a threat to their very survival. In close quarters\, fear\, hope\, and tension live side by side\, and safety is never guaranteed.\nThis story endures because it is not only a record of the past\, but a reminder of what can happen when fear is allowed to decide who belongs.\n Showtimes:\nFeb 6th\, 7th\, 13th & 14th @ 7PM\nFeb 8th & 12th @ 2PM\n\n Tickets are on sale now: \nhttps://ci.ovationtix.com/35929/production/1263565

SUMMARY:Free Rabies Clinic @ Salvation Army of Jamestown
DESCRIPTION:The Chautauqua County Health Department (CCHD) is announcing a free rabies vaccination clinic sponsored by The Salvation Army Jamestown Corp\, The Chautauqua County Humane Society and the CCHD. Animals must be pre-registered to receive vaccinations. Vaccinations will be provided free of charge to all dogs\, cats\, and domesticated ferrets three months of age and older. \nWhile supplies last\, microchipping and distemper shots will also be available through the Chautauqua County Humane Society at no cost \nThere are a limited number of spots available\, so pet owners should pre-register online as soon as possible.  If you register but decide not to attend the event\, please cancel your appointment so the spot is available for another pet.  You can cancel appointments via the confirmation email you receive when you register. \nPet owners must bring previous rabies vaccination records for each animal receiving a shot to ensure proper and effective vaccination; clinic staff will confirm previous rabies vaccination records.  All dogs must be on a leash. All cats and ferrets must be in individual carriers. Animal handlers will transport animals to the veterinarian for vaccination. \nNew York State Public Health Law requires each dog\, cat\, and domesticated ferret over the age of four months be vaccinated against rabies. County residents are encouraged to be responsible pet owners by having their pets vaccinated. \nRabies is a very serious disease of warm-blooded animals caused by a virus. Raccoons\, bats\, skunks\, and foxes are common disease carriers. The virus is transmitted to humans and animals through saliva and can enter the body through a bite\, scratch\, or open cut. The rabies virus infects the central nervous system and can cause brain swelling and ultimately death within days of the onset of symptoms. \nFor more information about the clinic contact the Chautauqua County Humane Society 716-665-2209. For general rabies information\, visit https://chqgov.com/environmental-health/rabies-prevention or contact Chautauqua County Health Department at (716) 753-4481.
