DESCRIPTION:Join us at Lake Shore Center for the Arts for the January installment of the Songwriters Circle Series\, sponsored by Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation\, Thursday\, January 15th @ 7:30PM and featuring three western New York singer/songwriters\, Tim Britt\, Kate Clark\, and Beave Sorenson. \nTo be considered for Songwriters Circle\, singer/songwriters can apply here. \nTim Britt \nTim Britt\, of Buffalo\, NY is a self taught musician who got his start playing as a teen in the local clubs in his hometown of Whitesboro\, NY. \nWith an engaging personality and vocals that range from a soft vibrato to a raspy rocker\, from an operatic falsetto to a mellow baritone\, this solo acoustic act continually proves he can entertain a vast audience\, and never fails to impress. His original songs have an appealing style of honesty with bluesy undertones\, and range from love songs\, to contagious crowd sing-alongs. \nHis ability to combine humor\, sensitivity\, emotion\, and true passion in his vocals\, with a percussive approach to guitar\, intricate finger work\, and a looping system that can layer harmonies\, rhythms\, and sound effects\, make this entertainer not only unique\, but a refreshing change to the music scene. \nKate Clark \nKate Clark is an active vocalist and multi-instrumentalist in the Buffalo music community\, playing most regularly with Almost Seamus and Uncle Ben’s Remedy (previously Rear View Ramblers\, CPX\, Stone Row).  She and her fiddle have also appeared in several theatrical productions in Buffalo (Ring of Fire; Once\, and most recently\, Come From Away). Sportsmens Americana Foundation’s Best Female Vocalist in 2018 and several Buffalo Music/Nightlife Awards for Original Female Vocalist. \nBeave Sorenson \nBeave Sorensen has been writing and performing as Leroy Townes for half of his life. The songwriting spark found him while he was working his first job as a paperboy and discovered a John Prine record at a garage sale. \nIn college\, the Leroy Townes Band took off and has released four albums and an EP. His new project\, The Blue Velvet Band sets its stage up back in Prine territory. Stay tuned for future releases.

SUMMARY:Heather Olson - From Howls to Horns: Our Shared Horizon
DESCRIPTION:My work focuses on showing specific species of wildlife that have been sidelined\, diminished\, and even erased by humans; It also shows species who display great fortitude and perseverance alongside the corrective measures of human intervention and science-based studies (‘High Hand’-the return of Elk in Pennsylvania). At its core\, this series illustrates that all species should have equal rights to coexist in our shared world. Some works explore stories of conflict\, courage\, and comeback (‘Dig Two Graves’-the Red Fox) while others convey my own ancestor’s role in the erasure of the Passenger Pigeon of northwestern Pennsylvania (‘A Part of Me Stole Their Souls’). \nThe work asks us to rethink the way that we observe\, treat\, and govern animals; It asks us to explore the complex systems of preference\, value\, and management practices—all put into place by humans and directed at these sentient\, sacred beings simply trying to make a living. The work also acts as a mirror-suggesting that with corrective measures\, respectful laws and governance\, and a greater sense of empathy\, our own journey towards future intergenerational sustainability could be within our reach. \nHeather Olson grew up in Asheville\, NY and\, as a child\, lived across the street from area painter\, Russell Welch. Heather was directly influence by artists\, Russell Welch and Jamestown-based artists and Southwestern Central elementary art teacher\, Patricia Micciche (Freet)\, and grew up continuing their traditions of observation and creative expression. Heather splits her time between Dewittville and Clifton Springs\, NY. She is the Executive Director and Gallery Curator of Main Street Arts. Heather has lived across the western US and Canada and owes much of her appreciation for places and animals to minds like by Aldo Leopold\, John Muir\, Annie Dillard\, and Theodore Roosevelt. When Heather is not creating she is spending time with her family\, friends\, and animals at her small farm-offering safe habitat and space for coexistence. \n“In wildness is the salvation of the world” -Henry David Thoreau \n’The Earth does not belong to us: we belong to the Earth.”

Riders will roll through the Red House area of the park. If there is no snow\, any mountain bike is welcome. DESCRIPTION:The Chautauqua County Health Department (CCHD) is announcing a free rabies vaccination clinic sponsored by The Salvation Army Jamestown Corp\, The Chautauqua County Humane Society and the CCHD. Animals must be pre-registered to receive vaccinations. Vaccinations will be provided free of charge to all dogs\, cats\, and domesticated ferrets three months of age and older. \nWhile supplies last\, microchipping and distemper shots will also be available through the Chautauqua County Humane Society at no cost \nThere are a limited number of spots available\, so pet owners should pre-register online as soon as possible.  If you register but decide not to attend the event\, please cancel your appointment so the spot is available for another pet.  You can cancel appointments via the confirmation email you receive when you register. \nPet owners must bring previous rabies vaccination records for each animal receiving a shot to ensure proper and effective vaccination; clinic staff will confirm previous rabies vaccination records.  All dogs must be on a leash. All cats and ferrets must be in individual carriers. Animal handlers will transport animals to the veterinarian for vaccination. \nNew York State Public Health Law requires each dog\, cat\, and domesticated ferret over the age of four months be vaccinated against rabies. County residents are encouraged to be responsible pet owners by having their pets vaccinated. \nRabies is a very serious disease of warm-blooded animals caused by a virus. Raccoons\, bats\, skunks\, and foxes are common disease carriers. The virus is transmitted to humans and animals through saliva and can enter the body through a bite\, scratch\, or open cut.
