DESCRIPTION:Starting Wednesday\, July 1st\, we’re opening the doors to a new weekly comedy open mic at Wicked Warren’s Jamestown. \nEvery Wednesday from 7PM to 9PM\, we’ll be upstairs on the 3rd floor in the new ballroom\, bar\, and stage area\, trying to do something simple and weirdly important: \nBuild the local comedy and art scene back up from the floorboards. \nThis is a comedian-focused open mic\, but all art is welcome. Comedy\, poetry\, storytelling\, music\, strange little performance experiments\, something you wrote on a napkin in a parking lot while your life briefly became a weather event. Bring it up. \nSign ups start at 6:30PM. \nEach performer gets 8 minutes. \nThere will be a 15 minute hard cap if the night allows for longer pieces\, but please plan for 8 unless told otherwise. \nIf you need anything beyond a mic\, stage\, and PA\, please let Paul Clemente know ahead of time. \nIf you want to sign up in advance\, let Paul Clemente know. \nIf you don’t know Paul Clemente\, get to know him. SUMMARY:Open Observatory Night
DESCRIPTION:At 7:30 the Martz-Kohl Observatories will be open to visitors. \nYou are welcome to tour the facility and view through several available telescopes\, weather permitting.  The observatory houses multiple telescopes to use for viewing celestial objects in the night sky.  The Kohl Telescope is a 20-inch classical Cassegrain reflecting telescope that was built by DFM Engineering in Colorado.  Also available for viewing\, located in the roll-off roof area of the observatory\, is a mounted 12-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain reflector telescope.  The Cassegrain reflector telescopes use a combination of the primary concave mirror and a secondary convex mirror.  Guests are also welcome to bring in their own telescopes to set up on the roll off roof area of the observatory\, weather permitting. \nWhen planning a visit to the observatory\, it is best to have seasonal attire on hand as the domes which house the telescopes\, as well as the roll-off roof area of the observatory\, are not heated.  \nThe observatory is located at 176 Robbins Hill Rd.\, Frewsburg\, NY.  The Martz-Kohl Observatory is an all-volunteer\, non-profit association [501(c)3] and does not charge for admission.  A non-member donation of $5.00 per adult and $2.00 per child or student is appreciated. \nThe Martz-Kohl Observatory houses one of the largest public robotic telescopes in the Northeastern United States.  On Open Observatory nights\, the public is welcome to come and tour the facility.  If the evening sky is clear\, the telescopes will be used to view the celestial sphere.  The observatory can be contacted at (716) 569-3689.  More information can be accessed at the observatory web site\, martzobservatory.org. \nAbout Martz-Kohl Observatory: \nThe Marshal Martz Memorial Astronomical Association\, Inc. is a non-profit organization devoted to the amateur astronomer. DESCRIPTION:The Fireside Lecture Series – a collaboration between the Patterson Library and the Chautauqua County Historical Society – continues in the fall of 2026. The speakers and topics will be announced in July 2026. \nABOUT FIRESIDE LECTURE SERIESA new lecture series\, free and open to the public\, will begin this March in Westfield\, NY. Known as the “Fireside Lecture Series\,” the programming is a collaboration between the Chautauqua County Historical Society/McClurg Museum and the Patterson Library. \nIn all\, eight lectures are planned for the inaugural year. The Fireside Lecture Series for 2026 will take place on the first Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. in March\, April\, May\, June\, September\, October\, November\, and December. \nThe dates for the Fall 2026 lectures are September 3\, October 1\, November 5\, and December 3. \nAll lectures will take place at Patterson Library (40 S. Portage St.\, Westfield) and are free and open to the public.

DESCRIPTION:Friday\, October 2\, 2026\n11:00 a.m. – Noon (Optional guided walk at 12:30 p.m.) \n$8 Adults; $6 Nature Center members\n$6 Children 9 – 15 \nReservations appreciated\, walk-ins welcome. \nJoin Rej Butzer to learn how citizen science helps us learn more about the amazing world of mushrooms. \nMycology is the study of fungus\, including mushrooms\, yeasts\, and molds. Learn how to become a mycologist assistant through participation in the largest MycoBlitz – a continent-wide mushroom collecting event. Join Rej for lunch at noon and a walk at 12:30 p.m. after the inside program. A Bioblitz is a survey of all the organisms living in a given geographic area. A MycoBlitz is a similar survey\, but with the focus on fungi. Participants work to catalog as many species as they can from the survey area\, during the survey period. Photos\, notes\, and specimens are submitted to a lab for DNA sequencing\, which provides the most accurate and reliable identification. \nLearn more about the importance of documenting fungus as well as how to participate in the MycoBlitz. No experience is needed to participate in the MycoBlitz. Just the ability to venture outside\, find mushrooms\, take decent photos with your cell phone\, and send a package in the mail. Participation is fun\, easy\, and you just might collect something previously unknown to science. The fall Continental Mycoblitz runs from October 1 – 11. More information can be found at mycomap.org/mycoblitz. \nAbout the speaker: Rej spends much of their time looking at and thinking about fungi and plants. They can frequently be found outside photographing their discoveries\, then researching their finds to continue growing their understanding of the natural world. They also learn by teaching\, often taking friends on walks to share what they learn with others. Rej has traveled cross country via bicycle from Kentucky to Texas\, worked two hunting seasons as a technician with the Fish and Wildlife Department in Montana\, and spent three months volunteering at a nature preserve in the Peruvian Amazon. They currently work at Royal Fern Nursery\, which specializes in native perennials\, trees\, shrubs\, seeds\, and plant propagation\, along with consultation and education.
