SUMMARY:Community Conversation: Welcoming & Belonging
DESCRIPTION:During Welcoming Week\, in partnership with the Jamestown Justice Coalition and the Robert H. Jackson Center\, NNC is hosting a Community Conversation with local leaders to discuss what welcoming and belonging looks like in different spaces. \nPanelists:– Daniel DeMarte\, President of Jamestown Community College– Michael Edwards\, Director of Jamestown Renaissance Corporation– Patricia Graves\, Director of Chadakoin Valley Project– Twan Leenders\, Director of Conservation at Everwild Land Trust \nKristen McMahon\, President of the Robert H. Jackson Center\, will moderate the conversation. \nJoin the conversation on how different sectors\, including higher education\, conservation\, urban development\, and local history\, contribute to a Jamestown where everyone can belong. \nCultivating a welcoming community requires a multifaceted approach. It means collectively investing in and supporting spaces where everyone is treated with dignity and can shape and impact the communities they live in. \nBelonging takes place in all spaces and in many ways. Our sense of belonging is influenced by our neighborhoods\, our schools\, our parks\, our historical institutions\, and\, above all\, by our relationships with one another. \nThis event is free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:Comedy Open Mic @ Wicked Warren's Jamestown
DESCRIPTION:Starting Wednesday\, July 1st\, we’re opening the doors to a new weekly comedy open mic at Wicked Warren’s Jamestown. \nEvery Wednesday from 7PM to 9PM\, we’ll be upstairs on the 3rd floor in the new ballroom\, bar\, and stage area\, trying to do something simple and weirdly important: \nBuild the local comedy and art scene back up from the floorboards. \nThis is a comedian-focused open mic\, but all art is welcome. Comedy\, poetry\, storytelling\, music\, strange little performance experiments\, something you wrote on a napkin in a parking lot while your life briefly became a weather event. Bring it up. \nSign ups start at 6:30PM. \nEach performer gets 8 minutes. \nThere will be a 15 minute hard cap if the night allows for longer pieces\, but please plan for 8 unless told otherwise. \nIf you need anything beyond a mic\, stage\, and PA\, please let Paul Clemente know ahead of time. \nIf you want to sign up in advance\, let Paul Clemente know. \nIf you don’t know Paul Clemente\, get to know him. He is around. \nA few house notes: \nNo hate speech. \nWhen it is your turn\, please keep the setup to a minimum so we can keep the night moving. \nBe kind to first-timers. \nListen to the performers. \nSupport the room you want to exist. \nDepending on momentum\, we’ll try to make one Wednesday a month a mixed open mic focused on outsider art forms\, weird ideas\, unusual performances\, and the kind of creative stuff that does not always have a normal place to land. \nThis is for comics. \nThis is for artists. \nThis is for people who used to have a scene and miss it. \nThis is for people who never had one and want in. \nWednesdays at Wicked Warren’s. \n3rd floor. \n7PM to 9PM. \nSign ups at 6:30PM. \nLet’s see what we can bring back to life.

SUMMARY:Open Observatory Night
DESCRIPTION:At 7:30 the Martz-Kohl Observatories will be open to visitors. \nYou are welcome to tour the facility and view through several available telescopes\, weather permitting.  The observatory houses multiple telescopes to use for viewing celestial objects in the night sky.  The Kohl Telescope is a 20-inch classical Cassegrain reflecting telescope that was built by DFM Engineering in Colorado.  Also available for viewing\, located in the roll-off roof area of the observatory\, is a mounted 12-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain reflector telescope.  The Cassegrain reflector telescopes use a combination of the primary concave mirror and a secondary convex mirror.  Guests are also welcome to bring in their own telescopes to set up on the roll off roof area of the observatory\, weather permitting. \nWhen planning a visit to the observatory\, it is best to have seasonal attire on hand as the domes which house the telescopes\, as well as the roll-off roof area of the observatory\, are not heated.  \nThe observatory is located at 176 Robbins Hill Rd.\, Frewsburg\, NY.  The Martz-Kohl Observatory is an all-volunteer\, non-profit association [501(c)3] and does not charge for admission.  A non-member donation of $5.00 per adult and $2.00 per child or student is appreciated. \nThe Martz-Kohl Observatory houses one of the largest public robotic telescopes in the Northeastern United States.  On Open Observatory nights\, the public is welcome to come and tour the facility.  If the evening sky is clear\, the telescopes will be used to view the celestial sphere.  The observatory can be contacted at (716) 569-3689.  More information can be accessed at the observatory web site\, martzobservatory.org. \nAbout Martz-Kohl Observatory: \nThe Marshal Martz Memorial Astronomical Association\, Inc. is a non-profit organization devoted to the amateur astronomer. The emphasis of the association is observational astronomy\, well-rooted in public education and enjoyment of the starry skies.
