DESCRIPTION:The Roger Tory Peterson Institute in Jamestown\, New York\, is a living embodiment of the Peterson Field Guide. It is a gateway to the natural area wonders that inspired Roger Tory Peterson to his career as one of the world’s premier artist-naturalists and international ambassador for the protection of nature. With a 27-acre nature preserve of wildflower gardens\, pollinator meadows\, and mature stands of hemlock trees\, the Peterson Preserve is a sanctuary for visitors. To celebrate this and other natural areas in Chautauqua County\, RTPI is thrilled to announce our fifth annual Plein Air Festival. \nThe Roger Tory Peterson Institute Plein Air Festival is a three-day\, open-enrollment plein air event in Chautauqua County\, New York. Artists will have the opportunity to discover the beautiful natural scenery of Western New York\, which inspired the young Roger Tory Peterson. Artists may create works at various locations within the area\, with suggested locations provided two weeks before the festival. \nFollowing three days of creating artworks en plein air\, artists are invited to display their completed artworks at the “Wet Paint” show and sale on Saturday\, September 19. All artworks submitted to the show will be entered into a judged plein air art competition\, with awards announced during the closing reception on Saturday\, September 19\, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. All works submitted to the show will also be considered for an exhibition of plein air artworks at RTPI\, to be held in the Fall of 2026 through Spring of 2027. \nPrize money will be awarded for 1st\, 2nd\, and 3rd place. \nPainters may paint anywhere in Chautauqua County; however\, RTPI will provide a list of suggested locations to choose from.

In addition to the permit\, vendors located outside the City of Jamestown must pay a $60 fee payable to the City of Jamestown. Vendors located within Jamestown are exempt from this fee. \nVendors should submit their permit and payment directly to the City of Jamestown. \nPLEASE NOTE: Vendors cannot participate in the event unless this permit requirement has been completed. \nThanks for grant funding\, the CHQ Chamber will not charge additional vendor fees for this event series.

These are held outdoors at the pavilion at the Whittier Apple Farm and Event Center\, usually at 6 pm.\nBook selection for November 2025 is Passionate Mothers\, Powerful Sons: The Lives of Jennie Jerome Churchill and Sara Delano Roosevelt by Charlotte Gray. Mary Rappole will be the discussion leader for November.\nWe are a bit out of sync as our September 15 meeting has been rescheduled to October 20 at ALBC. Book selection is West With Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge\, and the discussion leader is Robyn Steele. Several members have already shared that this is their favorite book of the year!\nOur bi-monthly meetings are held in January\, March\, and May. July\, September\, and November.\nMembers\, in November\, select books for the upcoming year.\nMembers who recommend a book then act as discussion leaders.\nSo our meetings are informal\, fun\, and have an underlying structure.\nWe read a wide range of books. We revisit classics. We read from the bestseller lists and from the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle selections. We read the Chautauqua County “Big Read” selections\, We read historical fiction and biographies. We read what we like.\n\nWe are a welcoming group. We would love to have new members join us. DESCRIPTION:Falconer Rod and Gun Club \nNYS Concealed Carry Pistol Permit Class Description. \nThis is the class you need to complete to apply for your NYS concealed carry pistol permit. We supply everything you need to complete the class. If you do not have your on premise pistol permit\, which allows you to bring your own pistol to class\, we have pistol rentals available. We have (.22 cal\, .380 ACP\, .38 special\, 9mm\, and .40 cal) pistols available for rental during our class. 22 caliber pistol rental is included at no additional cost. Ammunition is included with the pistol rental. You CANNOT legally bring someone else’s pistol to class with you. If you have your own eye and ear protection\, you can bring it to class to use. If you don’t have eye and ear protection\, we will provide it at no additional cost. We go over your application in class so you can get all your questions answered. We have a laid back no stress environment that makes everyone feel welcome. You need to bring your ID/driver’s license with you to class. These are two-day classes from 9 AM – 5 PM.
