SUMMARY:6 Week Youth Series: Intro to Contemporary Dance (6-12 Years Old)
DESCRIPTION:𝐒𝐁𝐃 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦: 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨 𝐭𝐨 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 (𝐀𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝟔–𝟏𝟐) \nThis class introduces young dancers to the foundations of contemporary dance through a fun\, supportive\, and creative environment. Drawing from established modern dance techniques such as Graham\, Limón\, and release-based contemporary practices\, students will begin to understand how the body moves with intention\, expression\, and control. \n𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐞: \n• Breath-driven movement inspired by Limón technique\, learning how breath initiates and supports motion• Contraction and release from Graham technique\, building strength\, coordination\, and expressive range• Fall and recovery\, developing trust in the body and learning how to move safely in and out of the floor• Use of weight and momentum\, a key element in contemporary and release-based work• Alignment\, balance\, and spatial awareness• Floor work and traveling phrases\, helping dancers move fluidly through space• Musicality and rhythm through structured and creative exercises \nAlongside technique\, students will engage in guided improvisation and simple choreography\, encouraging creativity\, confidence\, and self-expression. \nAt Sukanya Burman Dance (SBD)\, our approach is unique. We integrate strong technical foundations with creative exploration and emotional awareness\, allowing young dancers to not only learn how to move\, but also how to connect movement with feeling and imagination. Our classes create a space that is inclusive\, encouraging\, and rooted in curiosity\, where every child can grow both technically and artistically. \nBy the end of the program\, students will develop coordination\, strength\, confidence\, and a deeper understanding of how to express themselves through movement. \n\n𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬: \n𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬: April 28 – Jun 2 (6-week series) \n𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞: Tuesdays\, 5:00–6:00 PM \n𝐅𝐞𝐞: $70 for full 6-week session (sign-up is required for the full session) \n𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬: Shared online resources \n𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Scholarships and sliding-scale options available

SUMMARY:6 Week Series - Building Blocks of Dance (3-5 Years Old)
DESCRIPTION:Building Blocks of Dance is the next step for young movers ready to deepen their understanding of how their bodies move\, while continuing to nurture creativity and self-expression. \nRooted in principles from modern/contemporary dance technique\, this program introduces children to the fundamentals of movement by exploring how the body works in different positions\, pathways\, and dynamics. Students will begin to develop awareness of: \n-How to move the body in upright and grounded positions (standing\, floor work\, transitioning in and out of the floor) \n-Alignment and posture\, helping them understand safe and efficient movement \n-Weight shifts and balance\, learning how to transfer weight from one foot to another or into the floor \n-Levels and directions\, moving high\, medium\, and low\, and navigating space with intention \n-Articulation of different body parts\, how arms\, legs\, torso\, and head can move independently and together \n– Transitions\, or how we move smoothly from one shape or position to another \n-Drawing from contemporary practices\, students will explore fluidity\, suspension\, release\, and control. \n\nBuilding Blocks of Dance serves as a bridge between creative movement and more formal dance training\, helping students understand not just what to move\, but how and why the body moves\, laying a strong foundation for their continued dance journey. \n𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬: \n𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬: April 28 – Jun 2 (6-week series) \n𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞: Tuesdays\, 6:00–6:45 PM \n𝐅𝐞𝐞: $70 for full 6-week session (sign-up is required for the full session) \n𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬: Shared online resources \n𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Scholarships and sliding-scale options available

SUMMARY:Simone Muck: Artist in Residence
DESCRIPTION:Creativity is alive and well at Sacred Grounds! We are so excited to announce our Artists in Residence for the 2026 season  \n\nNext up: Simone Muck (June 4th-12th) \n\nARTIST BIO: Simone is an Austrian artist based in the Netherlands\, working with Skotography\, an analogue photographic practice rooted in early Spiritualist experiments of the mid-19th century. With a scientific background\, alongside long-standing spiritual and mediumistic training\, her work explores subtle connections between the visible world and the Unseen World. \n\nPROJECT STATEMENT: “During my residency in Lily Dale\, I plan to conduct a series of Skotography sittings in small groups\, in both indoor and outdoor locations. Sessions will take place either in total darkness or with photographic paper sealed in light-tight containers\, allowing gatherings in different environments while remaining true to the original approach of the early pioneers.”

SUMMARY:Chautauqua County Historical Society - Fireside Lectures
DESCRIPTION:WESTFIELD\, NY — A new historical lecture series\, free and open to the public\, will begin this March at Patterson Library. Known as the “Fireside Lecture Series\,” this new programming is a collaboration between the Chautauqua County Historical Society (CCHS) and the library. The Fireside Lecture Series was developed after the library approached CCHS in late 2025\, seeking collaboration to develop programming that focuses on history and\, more specifically\, local and regional history covering Chautauqua County and Western New York. After meeting and discussing further\, the two organizations settled on a lecture series that focuses primarily on local history\, but would also cover other topics related to general history\, as the opportunity allowed. In all\, eight lectures are planned for the inaugural year. The Fireside Lecture Series for 2026 will take place on the first Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. in March\, April\, May\, June\, September\, October\, November\, and December. The schedule of lectures for the first half of the year includes: Chautauqua County Celebrates America’s 250th with Norman Carlson\, Chautauqua County historian (March 5); The History of the Grange with Pamela Brown\, Harmony town historian (April 2); Westfield Native and Kentucky Derby Champion Vince Powers\, with Randy Anderson\, Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame director (May 7); and the Geological History of Western New York with Dr. Thomas Hegna from SUNY Fredonia (June 4).Additional lectures for the second half of the year will be announced this summer. All lectures will take place at Patterson Library (40 S. Portage St.\, Westfield) and are free and open to the public. To learn more about the Fireside Lecture Series\, visit CCHSMcClurg.org or PattersonLib.org.

SUMMARY:The Erie Railroad Comes to Dunkirk
DESCRIPTION:The New York and Erie Rail Road was the first railroad to link the Atlantic and the Great Lakes; and when it opened in 1851 it was the longest railroad in the world. \nRailroad historian William D. Burt will show how it happened — the choice of Dunkirk as the western terminus\, the original line NY&E built and then abandoned in favor of a better one\, and the 1851 grand opening celebration. He will discuss how railroad directors speculated in Dunkirk land and laid out several blocks of the city\, and how many Dunkirk streets are named for them. \nWhat is the Erie’s legacy in Dunkirk? This well-illustrated presentation covers it all. \nBill published his first history article when he was in high school and has continued writing\, off and on\, ever since. Following a career in the railroad industry\, he took up researching and writing about the history of the fascinating business\, with a primary interest in Eastern railroading\, particularly the Erie Lackawanna and its predecessor railroads. \nHe holds a BA in Political Science from SUNY Geneseo and a dual MS in Transportation Planning and Engineering and Management Science from Polytechnic Institute of New York (now part of NYU). He culminated a 27-year career in the railroad industry as President and COO of the Livonia\, Avon & Lakeville Railroad and its subsidiaries B&H Rail Corp. and Western New York & Pennsylvania Railroad. \nPart of Here & There – Chautauqua County History\, Travelers\, & Memories \nAdmission is FREE\, although donations are gratefully accepted

SUMMARY:Nuremberg Symposium\, Nuremburg: A 2026 Simulation
DESCRIPTION:Step inside history with the Churchill Archives Centre as they reflect on their Nuremberg Trial Simulation\, an innovative educational program designed to immerse participants in the challenges and dilemmas faced by prosecutors\, judges\, and defendants during the 1945 trials. \nIn this session\, panelists will explain the structure\, objectives\, and outcomes of the simulation\, highlighting how participants experienced firsthand the complex legal\, ethical\, and moral questions that defined Nuremberg. They will also discuss the broader purpose of such simulations: to deepen understanding of international law\, accountability\, and the enduring lessons of Nuremberg for contemporary justice. \nAttendees will gain insight into how historical trials can be recreated for educational purposes\, the challenges of role-playing judicial proceedings\, and the reflections of participants who engaged in this unique experience. This program offers both a behind-the-scenes look at the simulation and a discussion of its relevance to modern international justice and education. \nSpeakers– Allen Packwood\, Director of the Church Archives Centre– Dr. Sean Lang\, President of the Cambridge Branch of the HA and formerly Senior Lecturer in History at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) \nAbout the Churchill Archives CentreThe Churchill Archives Centre\, part of the University of Cambridge\, preserves the papers of Sir Winston Churchill and other key figures in modern history. It provides researchers\, students\, and the public with access to primary historical materials and engages audiences through educational programs\, exhibitions\, and innovative initiatives such as the Nuremberg Trial Simulation.

SUMMARY:DownBeat Percussion
DESCRIPTION:Composed of world class percussionists who thrive on energy\, precision\, and performance\, DownBeat Percussion performs in front of more than 70\,000 people every home game during the NFL season. \nFounded by a group of guys who went to Jordan-Elbridge HS together\, DownBeat Percussion’s first performance with the Bills was during the 2013 Christmas halftime show. Since then\, the group has been the team’s official drumline\, performing at every home game. \nDuring games\, they play in the parking lot for all the tailgaters and those entering Highmark Stadium. Before Kick-Off\, DownBeat plays a three-minute pregame show on the field. During the game\, the group is stationed just to the side of the tunnel and plays throughout the game to hype the crowd after a good play! During holiday games\, like Christmas or Veteran’s Day\, the group plays during halftime. \nThe members of DownBeat Percussion are all active in the field of education and have spent a large portion of their lives spreading the art of percussion and all of the opportunities it has to offer. They are dedicated to helping students become the best musicians they can be.
