DESCRIPTION:First Friday (Adult+)\nThe Birds of Southern France with Charlotte Schmaltz \nFriday\, January 2\, 2026\n11:00 a.m. – Noon \n$8 Adults; $6 Nature Center members\n$6 Children 9 – 15 \nReservations appreciated\, walk-ins welcome. \nJoin Nature Educator Charlotte Schmaltz as she shares her week-long exploration of the birds and nature of Southern France. \nCharlotte recently traveled to Southern France and recorded the birds she witnessed. This included spending an entire day at the Camargue Regional National Park\, a wetland wildlife preserve with an ornithological park. Whether it was listening to birdsong during morning walks to the local patisserie or spending several hours outside with a camera and binoculars\, there were many species to be seen and heard. While some birds are like those found here in Western New York\, others are completely unexpected and new. Charlotte will share photos and audio recordings of birds and stories of nature and her experiences traveling. \nCharlotte is a Nature Educator and Animal Care Specialist at Audubon Community Nature Center. She is also an avid birder and enjoys wildlife photography. Since moving to Jamestown in January 2025\, she has enjoyed learning about the nature and ecology of the region. So far\, her favorite trails are the ones at ACNC and the ones maintained by the Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy. When not outside enjoying nature\, Charlotte likes relaxing with her bird\, Pepper. \nSpecial Information: If you’d like to bring a packed lunch\, you can visit attendees and the speaker after the program. \nJoin Nature Educator and Animal Care Specialist\, Charlotte Schmaltz at 11:00 a.m. on January 2 to learn about the birds of Southern France at Audubon’s First Friday program.   \n

ESC is excited to offer the NY Snowmobile Safety Course this winter to help ensure our young riders can get out and enjoy the trails safely and legally. \nIn NY:– Kids 14-17 wishing to operate a snowmobile without adult supervision are required to successfully complete the course and possess a safety certificate.– Kids 10-13 wishing to operate a snowmobile on the trails are required to complete the course and have their safety certificate– Kids under 10 (or under 14 without a certificate) can only operate a snowmobile on land owned or leased by their parent or guardian. \nIf you’ve got a kiddo that needs their safety certificate\, we’re happy to help them accomplish that! We’re again partnering with the Bemus Point Golf Club & Tap House to hold the safety class on January 4\, 2026\, starting at 8am.
