Part of this work includes Morgan Freeman Presents: Symphonic Blues\, a live concert experience narrated by Freeman himself that explores the music\, culture and legacy of the birthplace of the Blues\, and highlights the Delta’s vibrant heritage and the vital role of Ground Zero Blues Club in Clarksdale\, Mississippi\, a cornerstone of Blues preservation. \nIn a week considering “Past Informs Present: How to Harness History\,” Freeman will discuss the rich history and heritage of Blues music in American culture — and work being done to preserve and celebrate that legacy — as part of the Chautauqua Lecture Series in the morning on Aug. 19\, 2025\, before introducing Symphonic Blues with the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra that evening in the Amphitheater. During this time the congregation has grown into an increasingly diverse and multi-cultural family. While the church has a long history of excellence in music\, liturgy and preaching\, it has also become a community centre for culture and the arts as well as many missional endeavours focussed on relieving food insecurity\, providing shelter and offering housing for those who are homeless and support for refugees. \nIn recognition of Peter’s leadership in ecumenical and interfaith endeavours in the city and beyond\, the Toronto Commandery of the Order of St. Lazarus of Jerusalem named him as the recipient of their 2022 Marjorie McKinnon Ecumenical Lifetime Achievement Award. Peter was a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth ll Diamond Jubilee medal and the King Charles Coronation medal\, both awarded to “honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians.” In 2016 Peter was named an Honorary Lifetime Fellow of Acadia Divinity College and in 2024 awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity from the same school. DESCRIPTION:The Tiny Journalist \nInternationally beloved poet Naomi Shihab Nye places her Palestinian American identity center stage in her latest full-length poetry collection inspired by the story of Janna Jihad Ayyad\, the “Youngest Journalist in Palestine\,” who at age 7 began capturing videos of anti-occupation protests using her mother’s smartphone. Nye draws upon her own family’s roots in a West Bank village near Janna’s hometown to offer empathy and insight to the young girl’s reporting. Long an advocate for peaceful communication across all boundaries\, Nye’s poems in The Tiny Journalist put a human face on war and the violence that divides us from each other. \nthe little book of e \nIn the little book of e poet E. Ethelbert Miller embraces the Japanese poetic form of haiku to comment on our contemporary world in a collaboration with translator Rafi Ellenson. Haiku presented in English and Hebrew is symbolic of how language can bring people together. Miller and Ellenson have given us a book that shows how Black and Jewish relations can continue to be a beacon of hope. This book is filled with words that blossom like flowers.

His new book\, The Violent Take It by Force: The Christian Movement that is Threatening Our Democracy (Broadleaf\, 2024)\, tracks how a loose network of charismatic Christian leaders called the New Apostolic Reformation was a major instigating force for the January 6th Insurrection and is currently reshaping the culture of the religious right in the U.S. He is the creator\, writer\, and narrator of the Charismatic Revival Fury audio-documentary series on the Straight White American Jesus podcast. He is also the author of Scripture People: Salafi Muslims in Evangelical Christians’ America (Cambridge\, 2023).

DESCRIPTION:Peter Berg became the fifth senior rabbi of The Temple since 1895 in July of 2008. Rabbi Berg is passionate about Jewish learning and meaningful worship\, and he is an advocate for social change. Prior to coming to The Temple\, he served as rabbi of Temple Beth Or in Washington Township\, New Jersey and as the Associate Rabbi of Temple Emanuel-El in Dallas\, Texas. \nOver the years\, Rabbi Berg has spent a great deal of time working with advocacy groups on issues including but not limited to: poverty & homelessness\, criminal justice reform\, preventing the human trafficking of minors\, civil rights\, religious freedom\, ending mass incarceration\, gun safety\, hate crimes\, the environment\, combatting antisemitism\, and strengthening the U.S.- Israel relationship. \nAdditionally\, Rabbi Berg has served extensively in community and national board service. He currently serves on the Board of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion\, the Anti-Defamation League\, Georgia Early Education Alliance for Ready Students (GEEARS)\, Faith In Public Life\, OUTCRY: Faith Voices Against Gun Violence\, Three Star\, Home First\, Georgia Interfaith Public Policy Center\, The Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta\, and the Commission On Social Action for Reform Judaism. He is Past President of the Atlanta Rabbinical Association.
