SUMMARY:Ashville Library Book Club
DESCRIPTION:The Ashville Library Book Club is open to New Members! \n\nMeetings are held every second month on the 3rd Monday of the month at Ashville Library at 4 pm EXCEPT for the months of July and September. These are held outdoors at the pavilion at the Whittier Apple Farm and Event Center\, usually at 6 pm.\nBook selection for November 2025 is Passionate Mothers\, Powerful Sons: The Lives of Jennie Jerome Churchill and Sara Delano Roosevelt by Charlotte Gray. Mary Rappole will be the discussion leader for November.\nWe are a bit out of sync as our September 15 meeting has been rescheduled to October 20 at ALBC. Book selection is West With Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge\, and the discussion leader is Robyn Steele. Several members have already shared that this is their favorite book of the year!\nOur bi-monthly meetings are held in January\, March\, and May. July\, September\, and November.\nMembers\, in November\, select books for the upcoming year.\nMembers who recommend a book then act as discussion leaders.\nSo our meetings are informal\, fun\, and have an underlying structure.\nWe read a wide range of books. We revisit classics. We read from the bestseller lists and from the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle selections. We read the Chautauqua County “Big Read” selections\, We read historical fiction and biographies. We read what we like.\n\nWe are a welcoming group. We would love to have new members join us. Please contact Secretary Dinah Hovey\, for further information. Email diannehovey@gmail.com or call 716.782.4342

SUMMARY:The Art of Steven Swank
DESCRIPTION:Patterson Show 2026 Artist Statement \nThe Art of Steven Swank \nMy Life\, My Art – –The joy of aspiration\, the humility of limit. The creative imperatives that necessitate new insight and growth\, a novel path through or around the challenge of evolution in a particulate art piece or form delights and invigorates my whole being. \nThe Twigsticks are 3 dimensional line drawings which cast a second image on the wall in 2 dimensions. They are recent adventures in space. Photo collage has a long history in my studio as I focus on eye movement and composition. More whimsical are the small environments composed of found objects. Some paintings are new for this show. I also present poetry as metaphor\, which is a constant companion in my life.

SUMMARY:Joseph Grice - Reverence
DESCRIPTION:“My bird paintings are a tether between the natural world\, and human emotion. Each piece represents a moment in time along the plot of a story both untold\, and well known. Determinism\, bravery\, wisdom\, strength\, beauty\, and joy are among the traits portrayed in these anthropomorphic characters. They are reflections of ourselves\, displaying traits and lessons that we can admire and live up to. They represent a reminder that clarity can come from the smallest of moments\, and that we are all connected to nature in an ancient way. These bird portraits explore what it means to be truly human\, through the lens of ornithological illustrations.”
