SUMMARY:OPEN REHEARSAL - First Look into New Works
DESCRIPTION:Please join us at 2nd Space for an open rehearsal and informal showing of a new work-in-progress collaboratively developed by Sandip Mallick and Sukanya Burman. \nFollowing a week-long creative residency in Jamestown\, Sandip Mallick and Sukanya Burman will share new choreographic material currently in development\, offering audiences a first look at the movement ideas\, creative process\, and artistic exchange taking shape between these two artists. \nThose who attended the inaugural Jamestown Dance Festival in 2024 may recognize Sandip Mallick as one of that year’s featured performers. We are thrilled to welcome him back to Jamestown\, this time for an extended residency with Sukanya as they continue developing their collaborative work. \nThe piece is still in process\, and this open rehearsal offers the community a chance to experience the early stages of creation in an intimate setting. \nFree and open to the public!

SUMMARY:6 Week Series - Building Blocks of Dance (3-5 Years Old)
DESCRIPTION:Building Blocks of Dance is the next step for young movers ready to deepen their understanding of how their bodies move\, while continuing to nurture creativity and self-expression. \nRooted in principles from modern/contemporary dance technique\, this program introduces children to the fundamentals of movement by exploring how the body works in different positions\, pathways\, and dynamics. Students will begin to develop awareness of: \n-How to move the body in upright and grounded positions (standing\, floor work\, transitioning in and out of the floor) \n-Alignment and posture\, helping them understand safe and efficient movement \n-Weight shifts and balance\, learning how to transfer weight from one foot to another or into the floor \n-Levels and directions\, moving high\, medium\, and low\, and navigating space with intention \n-Articulation of different body parts\, how arms\, legs\, torso\, and head can move independently and together \n– Transitions\, or how we move smoothly from one shape or position to another \n-Drawing from contemporary practices\, students will explore fluidity\, suspension\, release\, and control. \n\nBuilding Blocks of Dance serves as a bridge between creative movement and more formal dance training\, helping students understand not just what to move\, but how and why the body moves\, laying a strong foundation for their continued dance journey. \n𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬: \n𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬: April 28 – Jun 2 (6-week series) \n𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞: Tuesdays\, 6:00–6:45 PM \n𝐅𝐞𝐞: $70 for full 6-week session (sign-up is required for the full session) \n𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬: Shared online resources \n𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Scholarships and sliding-scale options available
