United Way Literacy Week 2026

United Way of Chautauqua County’s annual Literacy Week is scheduled for April 20th through April 24th!
Each year, volunteers from local businesses, local government and community agencies partner with United Way and the CHQ Professionals Group to highlight the importance of literacy at a young age!
For this event, we will need volunteers to read to children in grades Kindergarten through 6th grade at several local schools.
Last year, more than 70 volunteers reached 1,975 students across six school districts β emphasizing the joy of reading through classroom visits and placing a brand-new book in every childβs hands to take home.
Again this year, each child will receive a new book to take home β made possible by our book sponsors!
Literacy Week is co-sponsored by Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation, who provide a generous grant for the purchase of books to distribute.
Our additional 2025 Book Sponsors included: Cattaraugus County Bank, Dunkirk-Fredonia Rotary Club, Fredonia Cycling and Sir PrintsALot.
