“No matter how much one may love the world as a whole, one can live fully in it only by living responsibly in some small part of it. Where we live and who we live there with define the terms of our relationship to the world and to humanity.”
-Wendell Berry, writer and environmental activist
Over the years I have become a naturalist through my photography. I have found I have developed a laser focus on our world and how human interference wreaks havoc on our environment. What all of this boils down to is the journey of becoming a naturalist. I now pay attention to the life cycles of both flora and fauna. Studying the ecosystems creates better respect for nature and a willingness to teach and interact more cohesively with the environment. There is more than an artful passion for my photography. It now is embedded with thought and purpose beyond the image. My current work in progress is the future publication of an art book that features poetry and nature photography, entitled Finding Peace in Times like These. The inspirational images included have inspired the poetry that I have authored. The purpose of the book is also to de-stress its readers by viewing peaceful serene beauty and being lulled into a sense of calmness and reflection from the verses.
