Grammy-winning vocalist Samara Joy is one of today’s most celebrated jazz artists. A Bronx native, Joy first gained national attention after winning the 2019 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition and has since become a leading voice in contemporary jazz.
Her breakout Verve debut, Linger Awhile, earned Grammys for Best Jazz Vocal Album and Best New Artist, with DownBeat calling her “a silky-voiced star.” Her latest album, Portrait, highlights her soulful chemistry with her touring band and her growing work as a lyricist, drawing on music by Charles Mingus, Sun Ra, and Barry Harris. The album has already earned her an NAACP Image Award for Best Jazz Album.
