Although many trees do lose their leaves, there are plenty of plants known as evergreens that keep their leaves all year and provide some winter greenery. Some of these are also conifers, so they produce a cone with seeds. Join Audubon to explore evergreens, conifers, and other winter plants to learn how they provide animals with shelter or a food source when food is scarce.
Begin indoors with a hands-on exploration of leaves, pine needles, and pine cones. Then head outside into the winter landscape to make some observations of plants, compare different evergreens and conifers, and look for evidence of the ways these plants provide animals with the resources they need to survive the winter.
A snack is provided after the hike and a craft is offered if there is time.
Special Information: This program takes place rain or shine, please dress for the weather.
