Eggs come in different textures, shapes, and sizes, but they all have a common purpose: to provide a baby animal with the protection and food it needs to grow until it is ready to hatch. When you picture an egg, you may think of birds, but turtles, frogs, insects, and snakes are among some of the many other egg-laying animals. These eggs can be found in ponds, under logs, or in nests in trees.

Join Audubon to observe and explore the different kinds of eggs found in this area, and learn how animals keep their eggs safe from some of the challenges they face in the wild.

After a short indoor lesson, head outside to look for bird nests and evidence of egg-laying animals such as frogs, butterflies, turtles, and snakes. A snack is provided after the hike and a craft is offered if there is time.

Special Information: This program takes place rain or shine, please dress for the weather.
Red-winged Blackbirds lay their eggs in nests of woven grass. Learn more about all kinds of eggs at ACNC’s Little Explorers on April 12.
