Little Explorers ages 3- 8 and their adults can join Audubon to learn more about the mammals that rely on ponds and their connecting waterways.

Spend some time exploring these wetland spaces and you might see signs of beavers building dams, otters catching food, and muskrats swimming between the edge of the pond and their temporary lodges. These ponds and streams are important habitats for many aquatic mammals.

After a short hands-on lesson indoors exploring the behaviors, diets, and habits of western NY’s wetland mammals, head outside to search along the pond edges and look for beaver chews, otter tracks, and muskrat slides.

A snack is provided after the hike and a craft is offered if there is time.

Special Information: This program takes place rain or shine, please dress for the weather.

Clues like beaver chews on trees and logs are an important sign that beavers are in the area, even if the animal itself is hiding. Learn more about beavers and other wetland mammals at ACNC’s Little Explorers on April 11.
