Kite Making Workshop

Join us Saturday, October 10, from 1-2 pm for a kite-making workshop! Participants will decorate their own wind sled kite, a simple frame-free kite that uses the wind to inflate its curved shape and fly easily. A wide array of art supplies will be on hand for participants to decorate their kits: markers, crayons, paints, etc.! Instructor Mike Jabot, SUNY Distinguished Professor in Education, will be on hand to explain how scientists use kites to study the lower atmosphere, and how animals such as birds use it, too! After kite decorating, participants can take their new creations outside and get them flying.

About Mike Jabot
Mike Jabot has done a variety of things. From teaching kindergarten kids, all the way to “kids” exploring new adventures after retirement. He works with NASA on how we can make sense of data received from Earth orbiting satellites and how we can design systems that inform these satellite data. One of the interesting ways we can do this is through kites and that is where our session will start. Mike Jabot is a US partner of the NASA GLOBE Program and a NASA Earth Ambassador.
