Join Devin Banning to learn more about raptor migration and the Ripley Hawk Watch.
Every spring from March 15 to May 15, volunteers join the Ripley Hawk Watch to witness and document the spectacle of raptor and passerine migration. Each season an average of 15,000 – 20,000 raptors pass over the site. The watch is uniquely situated on a busy flyway for bird, bat, and butterfly migration. Documenting the seasonal movements of these organisms provides important data to help scientists and others understand the natural world.
About the speaker: Devin Banning is a recent graduate of SUNY Fredonia. He currently works as a Music Teacher at Alden High School. Though his career choice is in music, he is an avid birder and amateur naturalist. Devin is a co-founder of the Chautauqua-Warren Birding Association (CWBA), one of the coordinators of the Ripley Hawk Watch, and frequently leads programs and birding outings with Katelyn Davis for the CWBA and Buffalo Ornithological Society.
Special Information: If you’d like to bring a packed lunch, you can visit attendees and the speaker after the program.
