Diwali Celebration with Sukanya Burman Dance

Diwali Celebration with Sukanya Burman Dance

Sukanya Burman Dance and the New Neighbors Coalition fondly invite the community to a Diwali Celebration on Monday, November 9 from 6:00–8:00 p.m. in the Undercroft of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.

This year’s celebration will offer several opportunities to experience and learn about Diwali traditions together. Guests will be invited to decorate their own Dandiya sticks, which are traditionally used in celebratory folk dancing, before having the opportunity to put them to use during Dandiya and Garba dancing later in the evening.

The evening will also feature a hands-on laddu-making lesson, where participants can learn how to make the traditional Indian sweet often prepared and shared during celebrations and special occasions. There will also be a short conversation about the meaning and traditions of Diwali, all enjoyed alongside chai, build-your-own chaat, samosas, and sweets. A henna artist will also be available to create temporary henna designs for guests

Admission is $25 per person and includes the evening’s activities, Dandiya sticks and decorating materials, the laddu-making lesson, snacks and refreshments, and dancing. The celebration is family-friendly, and no prior knowledge of Diwali or dance experience with Dandiya or Garba is needed to participate.

Advance registration is encouraged. Tickets can be purchased via the Zeffy link provided.
