Birds are everywhere, which makes them a diverse group. Spend some time taking a closer look at those birds known as raptors, or birds of prey, which include birds such as hawks, eagles, owls, and falcons. Through a hands-on lesson, outside exploration, and a visit to the aviaries housing ACNC’s birds of prey, learn more about the ways these birds hunt, survive, and adapt to their different habitats.
Little Explorers and their adults will begin with a hands-on lesson comparing bird parts such as talons, beaks, and wings. Then take a look at the big picture with both taxidermy raptors and the real thing. Explore what birds of prey have in common, and learn more about the unique body parts and behaviors of this varied group. After an indoor lesson, head outside to look for signs of birds of prey, and learn more about their habitats.
A snack is provided after the hike and a craft is offered if there is time.
Special Information: This program takes place rain or shine, please dress for the weather.
Red-tailed Hawks, like Soren who came to ACNC in 2022, are common birds of prey in western NY. Learn more about hawks and birds of prey at ACNC’s Little Explorers on March 8.
