Argue More, Argue Better – A Scholar Lecture and Community Conversation

October 15 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Free

Join us Tuesday, October 15 at 5pm at the Jackson Center to learn how to “Argue More, Argue Better” with Andrew J. Perrin, Ph.D., as we explore the art of civil discourse in the spirit of Robert H. Jackson’s “Saturday Night Club.”

Did you know that Robert H Jackson often spent his evenings engaged in lively debates? The Saturday Night Club was a well-attended gathering where Jackson regularly discussed the day’s issues. Dr. Perrin will examine factors contributing to poorly expressed ideas and the impact of political polarization, shedding light on common pitfalls in discourse and offering insights into fostering more constructive conversations in our increasingly divided world.

We’ll conclude the program by hosting our own “Tuesday Night Club” meeting in the form of a Community Conversation.

Dr. Perrin, who will be joining remotely, is the SNF-Agora Professor of Sociology and chair of the Sociology Department at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. Author of numerous articles and books, including the 2014 “American Democracy: From Tocqueville to Town Halls to Twitter,” Dr. Perrin studies the social and cultural foundations of American democratic life. He is currently researching the role of higher education in building good democratic citizenship and working on a book about the use and misuse of evidence in American public debates.

Don’t miss this opportunity to enhance your argumentation skills and engage in meaningful dialogue!
