The Third Tuesday Book Group meets the third Tuesday of each month from 2:30-3:30pm.

Below are the selections for the 2025 calendar year:

Jan 21 – Solito: a memoir by Javier Zamora (nonfiction)

Javier Zamora’s adventure is a three-thousand-mile journey from his small town in El Salvador, through Guatemala and Mexico, and across the U.S. border – at the age of 9.

Feb 18 – The River We Remember: a novel by William Kent Krueger (fiction)

“Both a complex, spellbinding mystery and a masterful portrait of mid-century American life that is ‘a novel to cherish.’” – Star Tribune, Minneapolis

Mar 18 – Team of Rivals: the political genius of Abraham Lincoln by Doris Kern Goodwin (nonfiction)

On May 18, 1860, William H. Seward, Salmon P. Chase, Edward Bates, and Abraham Lincoln waited in their hometowns for the results from the Republican National Convention in Chicago. When Lincoln emerged as the victor, his rivals were dismayed and angry. Lincoln brought his disgruntled opponents together to create the most unusual cabinet in history, and marshal their talents to the task of preserving the Union and winning the war.

Apr 15 – Jamaica Inn by Daphne DuMaurier (fiction)

The coachman tried to warn her away from the ruined forbidding place on the rainswept Cornish coast. From her first glimpse, she could sense the inn’s dark power.

May 20 – The Six: The untold story of America’s first women astronauts by Loren Grush (nonfiction)

When NASA sent astronauts to the moon in the 1960s and 1970s the agency excluded women from the corps Eventually, NASA recognized its blunder and opened the application process to a wider array of hopefuls, regardless of race or gender. From a candidate pool of 8,000 six elite women were selected in 1978 – Sally Ride, Judy Resnik, Anna Fisher, Kathy Sullivan, Shannon Lucid, and Rhea Seddon.

Jun 17 – Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon (fiction)

A gripping historical mystery based on the real-life diary entries of Martha Ballard, an 18th century midwife who found herself at the center of a murder trial.

July 15 – The Women by Kristen Hannah (fiction)

“Women can be heroes.” When twenty-year-old nursing student Frances “Frankie” McGrath hears these unexpected words, it is a revelation. When her brother ships out to serve in Vietnam, she impulsively joins the Army Nurse Corps and follows his path.

Aug 19 – James: a novel by Percival Everett (fiction)

A retelling of the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, both harrowing and ferociously funny, told from the enslaved Jim’s point of view.

Sep 16 – Still Life by Louise Penny (fiction)

Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Surete du Quebec and his team of investigators are called in to the scene of a suspicious death in Three Pines, a rural village south of Montreal. #1 in the popular Gamache series, which now numbers 19.

Oct 21 – A Fierce Radiance by Lauren Belfer (fiction)

Set during the uncertain early days of WWII, this suspenseful true story from the NY Times bestselling author of City of Light follows the work of photojournalist Chair Shipley as she captures America’s race to develop life-saving antibiotics – an assignment that will involve blackmail, espionage, and murder.

Nov 18 – The First Ladies by Marie Benedict (fiction)

A novel about the extraordinary partnership between First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt and civil rights activist Mary McLeod Bethune – an unlikely friendship that changed the world. This is the story of two different, yet equally formidable, passionate, and committed women, and the way in which their singular friendship helped form the foundation for the modern civil rights movement.

Dec 16 – Funny Story by Emily Henry (fiction)

The book is about relationships, particularly after a serious break up. It involves two people (Miles and Daphne) who pretend to be a couple after their exes marry each other.

Jan 20, 2026 – The Life Impossible by Matt Haig (fiction)

When retired math teacher Grace Winters is left a run-down house on a Mediterranean island by a long-lost friend, curiosity gets the better of her. She arrives in Ibiza with a one-way ticket, no guidebook and no plan. Among the rugged hills and golden beaches of the island, Grace searches for answers about her friend’s life and how it ended. What she uncovers is stranger than she could have dreamed.
